I didn't know where to post this and it would not let me post in other topics since I'm a noob but it seemed like a pretty good place to start off in...

I have a 1995 Accord with a jdm H22A swap in it, it's a 4 door I just bought not that long ago but came across a guy who needs a more family oriented car so he is selling his 1992 Civic hatch with a B18A1 swap and is interested in mine for an equal trade. Which one would you guys go for considering they are both in good running condition. I know what mine can do and how it drives, what should I expect out of an LS Civic hatch? Oh yeah, my car is basically stock except for a short ram intake and a open jdm oem header and the LS supposedly has a CAI, Megan Racing 2.5" exhaust and a short shifter. Thanks for suggestions or comments.

daily driver/turbo eventually

I guess mainly my question would be, how good is a B18A1 for a turbo set up? Would it take more money to get the H22A in the accord to run 13's in the 1/4 mile than it would to turbo the B18A1 in the eg hatch, given it's the same driver and under the same conditions/upgrades? I know the eg hatch is lighter and in return would be better for racing at the track but what about the engine, is it a good foundation to start on? I am new to the whole horsepower side of honda, I was always into the looks and audio/video part of fixing up a honda so that is why I might be asking stupid questions, sorry about that. Thanks again!

The B18 is fine for a turbo. The B-series engines are pretty stout. Just make sure to do some tuning.

What I was trying to get at is, do you want a tiny little car, or do you want a car that's a bit larger?

B18 will be lighter, H22 will put out more HP/TQ as an NA motor. If you're going to turbo it, I would personally prefer the B18 just to save some weight, but I'm kind of a weight weenie when it comes to things like that. At most you'll be saving like 30 lbs.

In my opinion, a little extra weight over the drive wheels in a FWD car isn't necessarily a bad thing...

The hatch would weigh less & the B18 would weigh less

But if it was me, i would ditch the 4Door and grab the hatch assuming its in good shape,

I would keep your car.

b18a in a 92 is not only illegal in most places, its older/high mileage most likely.

if you're sick of the accord, get your own civic shell and put your motor in it.

I'm interested...what do you mean it's "illegal" as in race sanctioned illegal or DOT/Street illegal?

in most states with few exceptions, it's illegal to replace a motor with that over an older year or lesser emissions.

the b18a was not made in obd1 variety, the 92 civic is. thus, the swap is technically illegal.

most places, you can get away with it.
other places, like cali, you can't.

if the hatch is nice i would trade for it. the little hatch will be more fun to drive, and if you turbo it 200-250whp is all youll need to have a lot of fun... and it should run low 13s easily.

just out of curiosity if they ran a B18a as obd1 (dizzy, harness, ecu, ect) would it still be illegal?

actually B... isnt the 92-93 Integra obd1 b18a

:werd:

It might be legal, just depends on the year...

Yes. Even if you're running the engine as the correct OBD setup for the chassis, it's still technically illegal to have an engine that's older then the car...

thats what i've heard as well.... buuuuuuuut, when i had my EG BAR'd .. it was a 94, and my head had 92 stamped on it.. it still passed even though it was an older motor than the car

I know the laws differ all over the US, and even in each county. Where im from in NC if its 96 and back (OBD1 and earlier) all you need is a safety inspection where they dont even look at the engine.
