i am gonna invest in an ebay turbo kit, i know they are not great but its all i have money for, i was wondering what parts to look for and that are preferable, like should i get one with a cast or aluminum manifold and such

Why don't you just save your money and buy the right, better parts the first time instead of spending your money on parts that will probably have to be replaced, causing you to spend more money in the long run?

cast manifold and replace the turbo asap, some are good others will fall apart in your hands and the seals are DOA sometimes too

Yeah, I'm gonna have to go ahead and tell you to shut the fuck up...

rofl, mine was in great condition and everything is setup perfect except for the downpipe and it's an easy fix. Go to Homemade Turbo's website and read the Free Turbo newbie thread. It will list every essential part needed and then everything else is just food for thought. Such as Gauges and what not... You will need the Turbo itself, the manifold, the intercooler and charge piping, silicone couplers, reducers, t-clamps, the blow off valve, the external wastegate *internals suck but springs can be upgraded * urm... A downpipe that clears the oil pan, bigger injectors such as dsm 450cc blue tops, oil catch can with visual, probably make sure the fuel filter is good and probably a aftermarket fuel pump such as walbro, you have the tuning part down already I recall and I would make sure internals and studs are strong. The stock map sensor only holds around 11psi of boost, manual boost controller, turbo timer, gauges/pods, vacuum lines, oil lines for oil feed and drain. Jesus, there is a ton of crap that goes into a full setup!?

The spring is not the problem with crappy wastegates. It's the paper diaphragm. Those tend to burn up under some heat, wouldn't you say? Pretty smart to put something sensitive to high temperatures on your exhaust manifold. Especially when it controls something so critical. BRILLIANT!

for what? he asked a question and that was if he should pick the cast or aluminum manifold, I said go for the cast one, for the reason that the aluminum ones are known for cracking, and the cast ones aren't. then I told her him replace the turbo when he can because they are cheap knock offs and held together by glue? I'm not going to try and talk someone out of what they want to buy so, unless you're going to give any actual answer to what he asked, you should shut the fuck up

wow looks like we might end up having a girl fight in here after all..... I wanna see breasts ladies, preferably w/pierced nips. :D

OP I can tell you from experience that if you're looking for longevity out of ANY Ebay turbo kit, you can pretty much forget about it. It goes w/out saying that replacing the turbo w/a quality unit should be first on the list. But what most folks don't tell you is the Stainless is cheap and THIN. They are fine if you just want to throw a quick turbo kit on and flip the car. But if you want to keep the car for a while... by all means save yourself the headaches and save longer for a quality kit.

I went with stainless and I have never had any problems with headers or manifolds from EBay 6 years and still strong. Yes they are cheap, but mine have never cracked or leaked despite the poor craftsmanship compared to "brand name" jdm parts. If anything ever happens I will just weld mine back like a smart little boy and continue boosting. The kits do work but they are not going to guarantee you anything they don't have to. I have a warranty that came with my turbo for the next six months so if anything goes south, I get to send it back and then bust open a new one but if it brakes down in 7 months, I am fucked sidewayz with a donkey dick. Turbo's by themselves are actually not that expensive compared to everything else you need in the kit put together so after it's running just find a dependable one to trade out and you won't have any down time.

theres a lack of r&d backing ebay products, and thats why theyre so cheap
to each his own, you will never find an ebay piece as a key component on my car

@riceracerrex - you are the first person that i have ever heard of that hasnt had problems with an ebay tubular mani
buddy of mine has had one for about three months and its been welded numerous times, hell its mostly weld bead by now hardly any stainless left. if you can even call it stainless

i ran a ebay tubular on my dd for about 2 years and never had a problem with it it was kind of funny i had a gt35r hanging off a cheep mani but it worked. you do most often get what you pay for and the ebay stuff usualy breaks within no time at all

3 Months? So the manufacturer did not know how to weld and then after it was re-welded it, it cracked again? What the fuck man? I am glad that I've never had that kind of luck with ebay. I guess it's a game spinning the wheel and hoping for quality products. I would recommend using all the expensive parts too but that would make me a hypocrite. :(

go to vecco.com and check out there kit. all the important stuff if dependable brand names, but the inter cooler and pipes look like the ebay stuff so you save some money there. not bad for around 1800 plus shipping

thinking about doing something like this myself, mainly only ebay stuff will be the turbo, intercooler and piping, and downpipe. Everything else name brand to make upgrading the turbo the only thing after its all installed. hopefully i'll be one of the lucky ones that has a turbo that lasts longer than a month

its not necessarily the welds, but the metals they use
theyre so incredibly thin that when the welds crack and you do put a solid weld on it, the metal just cracks

ive seen the kits on that site, theyre definitely better than a cheap-ass ebay setup

you want to risk having bearing shavings from the turbo going through your engine? wow

hopefully not but i know it'll be a learning experience, using a LS i'm gona either get from a junkyard or from someone selling it cheap, going to take my basically stock b16 out and keep it for a backup should the need arise.

why would you plan for failure?
why not just do it right the first time and have a reliable setup to enjoy without headache?

im in the same boat. i have an ebay gt35r that i got for dirt cheap. if the turbo does blow, wouldnt it just blow out the exhaust? i dont see how debris would find its way in the intake

im considering selling the turbo for $300 or so and spending a few hundred on top of that on a used garrett 30r

Not a bad price for the 35r. 30 would be better bang for the buck but large power and psi outputs can be expected from the 35r if you build it right.
