So here's the deal. My uncle is selling a 1992 Accord 4dr EX. Its maroon, with 150k on it. Completely stock except for the deck in the car. Automatic, sunroof, power windows, locks, etc. The car has no mechanical problems. Drives great. The exterior looks pretty good. Theres a few rock chips here and there, and some door dings. The car has been in an accident, but was not totaled. Insurance covered the repairs and the car was repaired by a professional bodyshop. The repair looks good. I can't even tell it happened. A lady t-boned him in a parking lot. She hit him right in the passenger side rear door (hit part of the door, and part of the quarter panel).

The interior is fairly clean. There are some stains, and the driver's side seat has some wear on the bolster. Everything works, and it clearly has not been abused.

KBB for this car (high private party value, in excellent shape) is 2615, good is 2265, and fair is 1865. My uncle is asking $2500.

The brakes, timing belt, and master cylinder were all just serviced by the same mechanic that does all the major work on my dad's car.

Thoughts? Opinions? I'm just not too sure on the price really. I'm really set on getting the car, what do you guys think I should offer (I haven't made an offer yet)?

it'd make a great daily and if anything happens to the motor you can find a replacement fairly easy..

Yeah I already have a block and new pistons and rods in my shop, just unassembled. So I'm good to go there.
It sounds nice. Maybe offer like $2250-$2000?
That's sorta what I was thinking. The car is pretty clean, but it does have the normal wear and tear for 150k, so I was thinking that excellent condition might be a stretch. I'm gonna offer him 2300 and see what he says.

Yeah, I'd offer him less too. Paid 1500 for mine, but then again my front end is starting to fall apart.

Sounds like pretty average price for that year honda in the northwest, would probably be a good purchase.

Haha, I paid 350 for my last one and it's been a great car but it's going to need a lot of work here pretty quick and I don't know if the car is worth it.

Thanks for the input, I'm gonna try and see what I can do. Hopefully the uncle comes down a little bit on the price. Kinda stretching my budget at 2500.

2,500 for a car you know is reliable is definitely worth it, but I'd also have a hard time forking up that kinda money for said car. I also say offer him 2k and see how it goes. You know you'll be happy with the car, so just get it for less than he's asking so you feel like you got a deal. Isn't that how we all work?

Oh and TTIWWOP!

Sry recked.

I just noticed it has almost 100k less than mine. Lol, the only thing that would hinder my decision, and this would actually kill the sale for me is the transmission. I don't have faith that it would last as long as a beat to shit manual tranny, even if it was babied.

Honda automatics are pretty reliable, the problem is that stupid fucking kids don't know how to drive 5speeds so they buy automatics and do sw33t burn0utz by dropping their shit into drive at 6k

The only real problem with honda's automatics is they seriously eat power, but in a daily driver I don't see how that matters a whole lot.

word my bros car has 150k and trans is like butter..its actually a 93 accord lx with a beat body :)

I'd offer $2k and then take whatever he comes to in the middle ground. If it's a good reliable car that you know the history of AND it was owned by someone you trust, it's a good buy even at the $2500 price.

+1

The fact that you can offer 2k cash AND him being your uncle may just be enough for him to let it go.

I know I would demand the family discount.

the family discount will hopefully take effect
im calling him later today to make the offer, still thinking either 2k or 2200 as of right now
automatic is not a problem for me honestly, especially since i will not be revving it to 6k and dropping it into drive lol.. this car will be babied and parked in the shop next to the civic every night

just thought id update everyone on this
i talked to my uncle and he was pretty firm on the price, but i did end up getting him to agree to 2400
only $100 off but hey ill take what i can get

going to pick up the car shortly, pics tomorrow when its light out

Still not a terrible price, assuming it's been well maintained.

Considering the northwest has some seriously ludicrous private-sale prices for Hondas in particular.

yeah i think its a fair price

the prices in the northwest are pretty out of hand ive noticed. especially for what you get.
most are salvaged titles or have been hacked, chopped and sliced to pieces and then JB welded back together again. its a joke.

Couple years back I saw a dealer in Eugene with an '88 civic sedan in good to excellent condition, wanting 8k for it. Since then I haven't been able to take this part of the country seriously.

hah, not to mention all the kids trying to sell their crap. half of the cars nowadays are stuffed with quick splices, zip ties and wire nuts wrapped in electrical tape.

i never understood the point of doing things that way. at least use a god damn butt connector. its probably cheaper than the tape and zipties in the first place. not to mention the value of the piece of mind that your car is not a ticking time bomb.

i suppose thats the "honda game" (as some call it) now.

picked the car up last night for $2,400. loving it so far. its nice and quiet and everything actually works on it. no more crazy problems that i really don't have time to diagnose.

and the green 4 door got hit while i was in wal mart working (im a merchandiser for pepsi on the weekends), the lady was kind enough to file a police report, leave her information, and she even has insurance! she got the drivers side fender. its not too bad, but im guessing a body shop will want at least 700$ to fix it. just an fyi, im selling the green accord to a friend for $600.
Pic of the damage:
