my dd, 95 sedan with 170k stock d15b7, may need a new tranny, looking for 200whp $1500 budget.

what are my options at this budget?

build the d15b7 and boost?

dohc zc and boost? how much do i have to build for boost?

b20 swap? not 200whp

i need to keep the build in my budget and also need to keep ac/ps.

any suggestions would help me choose my build. pros/cons, need some feedback.

D15B7 really isn't all that strong, and will need beefing up to hold 200whp reliably. At $1500 I'd build up a D16 block, swap it in, then turbo it. That's probably the only way you'll get near 200whp on that budget.

werd turbo d16 or d15b is about all that you're going to be able to do in your budget. probably gonna end up having to steal a turbo setup from an eclipse to pull it off for the budget.

agreed, z6 + home made turbo kit is pribably the best way to go.

~500 for a z6 complete swap and leaves you about a grand to get a turbo kit together. small t3, dms 450's, crome, etc...

well i would be doing all the motor work my self if i have to build. if i do the d16z6 i will need to wire in vtec and get a p28 which run about a bill. complete z6 is 5-6, and i would be doing the homemade turbo setup. all labor will be done by myself. the only thing i can't do is tune and dyno and would be paying for it.

so i was wondering about the dohc zc obd1 compared to the z6? how much is the difference between the 2 motors.

zex wet nitrous kit for around $700 and extra 70 hp and like 100 lb/ft of tourque at a push of a button =)

not too happy with nos. ran it in my last car and bottle would get empty too fast. i was running 100 shot on my h23 using a wot switch. it was fun but the fun runs out.:(

yeah, i hated filling up the bottle so often. i was running the 75 jets on my b16. but its worth it when you wipe the smile off the guy in the v8

if i build the d15 block with pistons and rods will i get there?
if i get a d16 i still would have to get the pistons and rods, so extra money for the motor is being spent.

if you had a z6 or d15b, both have internals that will handle 200 hp stock. no need to upgrade that. sure you could do the same thing with the b7, but i wouldnt mostly because of the head. Maybe if you did a mini-me + turbo that'll do what you want. Someone more familiar with the D-series will have to confirm if you can do a mini me on a d15b7.

i thought about that and know i could get the 200 with turbo on the z6, if i did a mini-me on the b7 i might have to build the block and do head work. i know sock z6 heands can handle the 200hp and so can the block on a good tune. might be the route i will go. i am just wondering more about the dohc zc obd1. they drop right in. no ugrade in ecu, same tranny and axles, bump in hp and i could boost it. just wondering how much boost can the zc take on stock internals.

use a d16a6 block if u can find one.. it has better oiling (less chance of a spun bearing) or find an a6 crank and put it in a z6 or y8/y7 block. if u use the whole a6 engine u dont have to wire vtec. just take all the obd1 b7 sensors and put them in the a6. the get a p28 chipped and enjoy.

+1 get a whole a6...

sounds easy enough. i can get any motor i want. so d16a6 is what everyone suggest? any other motors i should be looking at?

a6 is obd0. if you're going to use it, use it for the block only to make a mini-me out of.

so i take the a6 block and what head? do i use the b7 head, or z6 head and vtec with p28 and boost that.

Nice car!

It's pretty much the only thing you can afford with that budget. A healthy 0BD1 dohc zc would take up alot of that budget.

I agree, go with the complete a6.

i could pick up a dohc zc for the same price as getting the a6 and z6 head and going that route.
