My friends wife, whom I love to death, called me an alcoholic last night. My roommate texted me and asked me if I got beer, which I forgot about after work. Basically between the two of us, and sometimes my roommates boyfriend, we can go through a 24 pack in 3-4 days. Which if you break it down thats 12 a piece divided by 3 its four beers a day. Thats enough for me to be buzzed to the point where I'm not legal to drive.

I decided to look up one definition of alcoholism.

Overview
Alcoholism is drinking alcoholic beverages at a level that interferes with physical health, mental health, and social, family, or job responsibilities.

I went to hang out with my friends after my 8 hour work day yesterday. lol

Symptoms

Alcohol affects the central nervous system as a depressant. This leads to a decrease in:
  • Activity
  • Anxiety
  • Inhibitions
  • Tension
Even a few drinks can change behavior, slow motor skills, and decrease the ability to think clearly. Alcohol can impair concentration and judgment. Drinking a lot of alcohol can cause drunkenness (intoxication).

Some of the symptoms of alcoholism include:
  • Abdominal pain
  • Confusion
  • Drinking alone
  • Episodes of violence with drinking
  • Hostility when confronted about drinking
  • Lack of control over drinking -- being unable to stop or reduce alcohol intake
  • Making excuses to drink
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Need for daily or regular alcohol use to function
  • Neglecting to eat
  • Not caring for physical appearance
  • Numbness and tingling
  • Secretive behavior to hide alcohol use
  • Shaking in the morning
If this sounds like you, then you're an alcoholic. None of this defines me even in the slightest. Well, except the confusion part. I've always been confused though.

I always thought if some is good more is better. :shrug2:

I've often told my wife is she would drink with me I wouldn't have to drink alone. lol

drinking alcohol every single day makes you an alcoholic.

is your dad an alcoholic?

Sir, you are not an alcoholic.

My wife and I have, in the last week, gone through 2 handles of capt. morgan, 1 of jim beam, and 1 of jack. Not to mention 2 24-packs of budwiser and 2 6 packs of kona pipeline porter.

Im lucky if im sober by the time i go to work in the morning.

whoa, that made me sad just typing it.

anyway, yeah, 3 beers a day is kind of bad, but if you went around my office, it's not as bad as you might think.

i like to have a couple beers after work every day. i dont have to drink... i dont freak out if i dont drink. its very rare that i drink more than 6 beers in a day, and thats only if im not working and there is an occasion to do so.

so just because you drink almost every day means youre an alcoholic? i dont think so. i still have complete control of my life, and rarely get anything even resembling drunk. i just like the taste of a good beer after work.

Holy wow dude.

I thought my 12 pack/week of Sam Adams Winter Lager was a lot. Now I'm glad my wife doesn't drink with me. lol

drinking every day doesnt make you an alcoholic. losing control of it does.

A friend of mine is dealing with his dads alcoholism right now, it's some scary shit. When you're breaking things to get to alcohol, you know you have a problem.

It really doesn't sound like you do. Especially if you're just relaxing after work. There's nothig wrong with that.

alcoholics go to meetings, drunks don't

when i started drinking more than once a year, my gf and my mother told me i was becoming an alcoholic.
i still only drink at max 1 or 2 times a month.
people are retarded.

You just have to understand my buddies wife. Ever since their first kid was born she became controlling. What it basically boils down to is the fact that she had to quit smoking and drinking for 2 years now and he didn't. So in her mind its "if I can't then you can't either".

The irony that she doesn't see yet is that SHE wanted the baby, he wasn't really ready for the whole pregnancy the first time... don't get it wrong, he's happy with where he's at with his daughter and newborn son, but she pushed him for a kid... and now she turns around into this lifestyle.

Last night was the first time she turned on me about it. I was upset when she said it, but its not worth arguing over really. I have to break her, and my other friends wife out of the "believing everything you read about anything bad" routine and make your own decisions about different topics.

Why would you want to though?

Beer belly. I'm skinny as hell, but developing a disproportionate ponch. Guess I need to step up my polar bear chasing and seal clubbing to work off those extra calories.

The whole beer belly thing is a myth.

:edit: 2000, next time she is around ask her if she would run you to the liquor store because you lost your license for a DUI coming back from the bar.
