Well to start off I have a 94 Civic Dx coupe 5 speed 174k . Nothing is really wrong with the car it runs good other then needing a new coil. Ive been thinking about a swap for the last year. Ive never swaped engines in a honda before but ive done it in a few other vehicles.

Anway I been thinking about 2 motors. The JDM D15B Vtec or the D16Z6. Ive done alot of searching here and just need a little help deciding. I am looking for the most bang for my buck(aren't we all)

What do you guys think? Also if there is other tips/upgrades ideas throw them out there. Thanks every I appreciate it.

you will never find a answer to this,, it will always be 50/50 both are good and both are just about the same. just get the one you can budget

D15B would be my vote because I personally own one. But you have to realize that if it does break down, parts are really hard to find for the motor. That's what problem I had, and since they are only in Japan and parts aren't readily available here, I'd advise the D16. I was hard pressed to find spare parts for a D15B block, so I went B-Series.

Thats pretty much all I needed to hear..... ive had to search for parts many times before and it wasnt fun. So with that being said i'll probably do the D16.

Now I am new to the Honda scene so when I get the motor I was thinking about putting a new clutch in.. I was also wondering about a cam but I have no idea which one or anything like that.

just a not the d15 and d16 share almost all the same parts, anything you would need for the d15b can be found on a usdm motor

Try and find me some matching pistons from a JDM D15B and a USDM D16. All the specs I have ran into show differences.

I'd look up Bisimoto for your D-Series inquiries. They are expensive, but worth it in my opinion. Are you going NA or Turbo?

That's the thing man you never know what you might need. I would love to own a D15B but I also wouldnt mind a d16 and if there is more parts out there for that motor then i'd probably would feel better going that route.

Thanks every one for your input and please continue giving advice/tips/information.. I'll get pics of up the project car later on today.

Haha you'd be surprised. And especially if he plans to mod the motor in the future, he'll have to get custom pistons and maybe rods too. I think the cranks don't crossover as well. But if he is going turbo, I'd look into Vitara pistons.

bingo, if he mods there will be all kinds that will fit. and no need for custom pistons if he mods, just up to his budget and goals

d1666

d16 is a strong singleee i have a d16 myselff the sick thing is u can turbo the shit out of themmm:) go with the d16 i say:cool:

I got about 3500 saved up right now... Which should cover the swap easy.

So far my plans are this.

D16
Headers
Clutch

I already have a cat back exhaust, so 3500 is my budget for right now i'll have more in a few months of course. But I need to get a set of tires and maybe a paint job.

well to give you a idea for about 1800 bucks i could build a all motor d series to put down 150whp or you could turbo a d series for about the same price and get 200whp,

just depends on how much power you want, my opinion is for a stock d series, dont go over 200whp or 7500 rpm what ever comes first.

Well to be honest i'd probably a pussy on the throttle. I pretty much pussy foot all my toys/cars.. So I should be fine if I take it easy
