i dont know all that much on building a motor so i am asking here..... i just bought a d16a6 head and i have a full d15b7. i am trying to decide what would be easier for me to get done turbo or na. i want to know what oem parts will lead me to my goal of a oem all motor d15b7.
 
mini me for all motor i think would be a good choice.

oem parts are up to you
sohc vtec head d16z6 or d16y8
d16z6 or d16y8 head gasket
d16z6 timing belt
piston choice is up to you
be even harder to just try and build the d15 unless you boost the hell out of it.
 
I'd stay NA...
You can get great power out of a d engine!
Get some A6 pistons to boost compression, and you'll be were you want.

I think you mean a1 pistons, out of an 88-89 teg. That or zc pistons.

A6 pistons are still very good for a compression bump if you don't want to run into the 12s...
 
a6 pistons on my stock rods? i dont want to mess with vtec thats why i jumped off the mini wagon.

d16y8 intake manifold
b16sir2 tb
d16a6 head
hpr 4to2to1 header

i am going to buy new valves and what not for the head and get it ported
 
what do the A6 rods look like? Are they beefier than the B8 rods? How about the A6 pistons? What CR will it yield? I'm lookin to build my cuzins D15 but know little to nothing about this engine.

why are you talking about going NA all of a sudden?
I thought you were going to turbo that bitch and have a fun ass car to drive around in?
I say turbo, you will be much happier with it when you are done because there will be more power for your dollar, as long as you are going to be building it anyway and I assume having some tuning done.... just go for it!

its all about the budget... i cant get a hold of the dude with the turbo parts i need/want. i email him once a week and no answer. still with the things i have i still can go both ways
 
I don't know the answers to the last slew of questions... but 92- you can still run the A6 pistons without worrying about VTEC. You won't get the same compression increase as the DOHC ZC pistons (smaller dome on the PM6 pistons), but you will still probably get something in the high 10s to low 11s. I'm not sure what the exact number is though.
 
high compression, cams, and a little head work goes a long way and can be built fairly cheap. . . i'm very happy with my built NA LS motor

cant use the a6 rods on a d15....there simply too long.

As it goes with the theme here I have a d15b7 wit the head milled .045" , a z6 intake manifold and full exhaust headers back.....its got some pickup but I feel like im still missin that extra step....with the head milled like that can I still put in some a1 pistons without worrying if they will smash into the valves?.....and is the stage 3 crower cam worth sendin mine in 4 a regerind?
