ok i have a 91 crx si with a jet ecu and i'm driving along and my car all of the sudden the rpms will just jump around from 3 to 1 to 4 to 2 and it might die it might not, i checked the ecu code and it gave me 17 which is the vss veichle speed sensor so i took off my gage cluster and unpluged all that shit put it back together and the ecu stopped blinking the code but my car is still acting the same way, i changed my spark plugs put a new battery in, i'm puzzled please help me.:confused::confused::confused:

Sounds like it's the ignitor to me. Not only is the ignitor the control module for spark, it also is the rpm feed (blue wire) for the cluster.
 
Inside your distributor. The blue wire on the two pin connector for your distributor that's coupled with the Blk/Yel wire is the one i'm talking about.
 
could it have come loose because my distributer is pretty new about a year old my dad is checking it now i'll let you know what it looks like
