I'm looking to boost a b series motor. my budget is between 5-6500. What would i need to ensure the motor stays reliable and still put out some decent numbers. i want around 350-475 whp. Note this car is going to be my daily driver. Just looking for some opinions. thanks

a 400hp turbo honda is not going to make a good DD. have you ever driven a fast fwd car before? even 250 whp is enough to have serious traction issues.

at the hp levels you are talking about the motor would need to be sleeved and the build will get expensive. i wouldnt want to put tons of daily driving miles on what is essentially a race motor.

i was thinking of going h2b, but i want to try boost so i'm now leaning more towards something like b16 or ls turbo.

You'll be better off to get a 2nd car to have as a daily driver because when you start building & turboing motors you will have problems at some point. With a 2nd car you can still have transportation while trying to figure out what's wrong and trying to fix the built one. Especially when you have to sit and wait a week or more for parts to come in.:noodleman:

go with a hybrid of the second two, ls-vtec turbo
that'd blow an h2b out of the water any day depending on the build

bahahaha this is one of those awesome threads. we haven't seen one of these in a while. i can already tell that you have no idea what "decent numbers" for a honda are.

asking for a 475hp civic like eating one of those 76oz. steaks. you don't realize how much it is until it kills you.

ask a friend who has a 200hp civic if you can drive his. then imagine 2.5x the power. its just unreal. you are looking at a 9-10 second 1/4 mile car. it is NOT street driveable and can NOT be done for $6000.

get an ls swap, piece together a turbo, and start with that.

don't worry about getting suspension, brakes, or tires because that is all just bullshit. all that matters is going REALLY REALLY FAST

i've driven a 200 hp civic before. just wanted something more. you are right, i've never been in a 475 whp car. so i guess my question right now is whats a good goal to set powerwise? i'm going to go with ls turbo. i appreciate all the inputs.

i would think ls turbo may be the cheapest way to make a quick honda. if you build the bottom end you can make 250+ whp. at that point you should easily run 12s in the 1/4 mile... thats a damn quick street car.

stock sleeves, 9:1 compression, eagle h beam rods (or better), a nice turbo set up, including injectors, a better intake manifold, etc. the big thing is you need a way to tune it. find a person or shop that does dyno tuning and ask what they tune with. with a good tune 250whp should be long-term safe on a ls block.

"can NOT be done for $6000" bull shit give me 6k ill buy a car and boost it to those levels and give u change. d ftw
as long as ur no douche bag and dont drive it like a dumb fuck id say a good tune on a STOCK ls would get u in the 250 range safely. iv driven a 320whp gsr that was very conservitive and romped on it and had no probs for over a yr.

if u have a da do a mild kit on that and take the rest of your money buy a spare block. once u see what boost is and how much u want/ need build the other block accordingly.

alright. what would you recommend for a turbo kit? and i appreciate your help by the way.
junkyard is your friend ebay is your friend search is your friend plenty of people have done what u want with good success. that parts arnt the bg thing its the tune and how u treat it. 1200 bux in used parts can go a long way.

You get what you pay for. Yes, you can use ebay for your piping and itercooler but not a good idea for the turbo. You can build a reliable junkyard kit but you may have to fab a few thing to fit. It really depends on your experience with turbo setups and your budget. But it is ultimately up to you what you want to do

475whp for 6k, reliably?
reliable is the key word here. sure you could get that much out of an engine for 6k
but youre forgetting the important part. putting it to the pavement and building the drivetrain to handle it
youre dropping this engine into a HONDA, a car that was built for 150-200hp at MOST. 475whp is going to tear any stock honda drivetrain up
not to mention that the power would be completely useless without a decent differential, axles, mounts, suspension, brakes, wheels and tires to handle it

also, id like to point out that 320whp on a stock gsr is far easier to obtain than 320whp on a stock ls. i made that on my car with stock sleeves AND cams. the ls head simply doesnt breathe as well as a gsr/b16 head. steps must be taken to make power with an ls
250whp is going to take more than you think on a stock ls and im not sure that the stock components would hold up very long, especially with mileage on them

you sir have a lot to learn about forced induction and i would say you should probably do your research before you advise people with their builds. its easy to say you can do something, but actually doing it is a whole different challenge

again, research before you advise
parts make a huge difference in a build, in fact they can make or break a build just as tuning or driving like a douche could

OP:
my advice is to wait until youre ready to do this right
save some cash, build a spare bottom end and swap that into the car
break it in N/A, and then when youre ready put the turbo kit on and tune the car
the bottom end will already be solid, and youll have a solid turbo setup if you just wait and buy quality parts.
also, youre going to need some drivetrain upgrades depending on how well you want the car to perform

You're seriously suggesting that you could build a nearly 500 horsepower Honda that's reliable and street-able for 6 grand total???
