Hey, I am A Honda Motor swap virgin. Coming to find out not as easy as I thought it was. I got a JDM Motor. The swap is about as simple as it could be from what ive been told. Going from a D16Y7 non vtech to a D15B.... ince fit no motor mount rearranging or anything but I have a few question. What is a econmical VTECH my car doesnt have the vtech stamp on the heads so I had it checked out it has TWO VTECH cnyloids vs one. Any Ideas on that. Also the second Problem is the distrubitor. I need a VTECH one but i need to know what I can pull one off of. And how to wire an ECU for an Economical VTECH

text me if you want to 928 848 7377 or email me back or here either or thanks.

first off its VTEC - "economical" vtec means it has vtec but only on the intake valves, "power" vtec has it on intake and exhaust, as far as having 2 solonoids cant help ya there, there is only 1 vtec solonoid and on a d series engine its loacated in the corner of the head behind the distributor, you need a vtec distributor because you now have a vtec solonoid and the non vtec distributor mounts where there the solonoid is, just get a ecu from an obd1 d15b and your good

Not really... there are quite a few different flavors of VTEC on the D series engines.

VTEC-E was on the VX (5th gen) and HX (6th gen) Civics and only opened one intake valve at low rpms, effectively making the engine a 12 valve setup until higher revs allowed the second intake valve to open. The E stands for economy or something like that.

VTEC in the SOHC D series engines is where you only change the characteristics of the intake valves.

The three stage D15B (there are "normal" two stage D15Bs) combines the normal SOHC VTEC operation with VTEC-E operation, so there are two VTEC solenoids.

Look in the top left corner- that's what the 3-stage D15B looks like with both solenoids on it.

The Photo is exactly what I have the two vtec slyoinds in left hand corner of the block! It does not have the Vtec stamp on the heads it matches the photo 100%. So what kind of a wiring harness is it. I was told it was aa obd2 not sure though. its going in to an 98 dx civic which is an obd2 right? And what USA block can I pull the disturbotor off of for that block? those are my two major question now I guess. Feel free to call me and help me make sense of all of this. 928 848 7377 verizon cell. Thanks for clearing that up for me. No ONE i mean NO ONE could identfy the vtec. So thanks guys a bunch!

Not sure exactly which one- but probably any SOHC D VTEC distributor with the same OBD revision would work.

and I would post a new thread but it wont let me yet no idea why but no good yet
