I've got about 180K miles on a D16Z6, was wondering how I know when to replace the piston rings? I'm getting more of a ticking sound, no knocks. Compression is good.

I am already in the process of doing a full stage 3 Z6 head from Exospeed. Should I re-do the pistons, rods, bearings, rings as well?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

I think what you're hearing is known as honda tick, everything is fine, you don't have to worry about the rings, as long as the compression is fine thats all that matters

Thanks man. I have been searching around and that seems to be the consensus among Honda owners. So a drop in compression means rings are bad though right?

If so, I'll just keep tabs on that. Thanks again.

a drop in compression can have something to do with the valves as well
i wouldnt worry about it unless the car is smoking and or making a LOT of chatter.

Yeah it's not. Its more one of those, "what the hell is that ticking?," from an anal driver who hears every little sound. I'm sure people can relate. That's why I came on here to ask, haha.

could be valve clearances or the lma's on the intake side. check your valve clearances. never the less iv'e noticed hondas have a lil tick at idle, both my y8's do it a lil when theyre warm.
