I'm thinking a valve job and a good port and polish skunk 2 intake manifold. I have a nice header sitting here. then instead of spending 2000 on a stroker kit cant i just take some b20 pistons and rods with the b18 crank or some kind of combination like that? Or just leave the bottom end alone. I had a stock ls with an itr trany in an eg turn 14.6 at 93. Im trying to just get into the 13s. can I do that with a stock lower end? Oh and by the way, I do not want to do anything with a turbo.
 
NO B20 pistons......period...who ever told you that likes-a-the-crack-a-pipe. You'd have to bore your cylinders to put OEM ones in....silly.

JG head for LS is legendary but other companies are good too (portflow). Port/polish/cams/springs/retainers/IM/TB/Injectors/chip/tune You should get around 20-35+whp maybe even more.

14.6 is pretty good. I did 14.78 with full interior in an EG with Full LS swap (LS trans too) with DC header...cheaper short ram and exhaust.

13's may need a little squeeze or boost if you don't want to build the bottom (along with the top) But too much squeeze or boost and it'll go Snap Crackle Pop....Rice Crispies.
 
If your wanting to go n/a --Raise compression, that is where youll get the biggest gain among other mods such as head work as explained frm ^(CAFROG)

*if you decide to raise compression raise octane 93+, dont run 83 oct... can you say pre-ignition, just FYI
 
i thought a b16 18 and 20 all had the same stroke, just different. I guess i was told wrong.
 
B20's are 2.0 liters. B16's, and B18's are 1.6 liters. If you rebuild the bottom you might as well go with eagle rods since the engine is out of the car and tore apart. Eagle rods are stronger and can handle more abuse.:cool:

B18's are not 1.6L...;)

  • Bore: 81 mm (3.189 in)
  • Stroke: 87.2 mm (3.433 in)

  • Rod/Stroke Ratio: 1.58
  • Power: 190 PS/140 kW @ 7900 rpm & 131 ft·lbf/178 N·m @ 7300 rpm
*these are average figures.. other B16's & B18's will differ such as the B18c5 (TYPE R)

No. It's in our reference section, along with a "which engine is what" guide. Go read. Short answer:

B16A/B = 81mm bore, 77.4mm stroke
B18A/B = 81mm bore, 89mm stroke
B18C = 81mm bore, 87.2mm stroke
B20B/Z = 84mm bore, 89mm stroke

There IS a B20A with an 81mm bore and some weird long stroke, but it came in the late 80s to early 90s Prelude and is a really screwy engine to work with. You do NOT want to swap one into another car- there's practically no aftermarket support for it.

Go read up. Learn. Then come back and ask more questions... and stop listening to whoever told you that B20 pistons would go into a B16/B18.
