it's a mess. he really does have a right to talk about it. people wouldn't have issues if they understood how bad the free health care is. everybody here either doesn't have health care, or it's good enough to not see the mess.

try being in the military. you have to get a referral for everything. i broke my leg on a 3 day weekend. couldn't see a specialist for almost 4 days. it's terrible.

Yeah, military healthcare, the only real socialized system of medicine created by America that we have to go on, is conducted in a such a way that it discourages seeking treatment. And when you do go, if 800MG of Ibuprofen 4X/day will mask it enough to send you back to work, well there you go. And if your stomach is eaten alive by the time you are 50, oh well, you'll be out of the military by then. Not to mention most of the time you see physician's assistants instead of real doctors and you get the feeling that their job is to get you out of there as quickly as possible, spending as little money as possible.

has anybody here ever not gone to the doctor because they didn't have inurance. then immediately go once they get a new job? i know i have. could you imagine trying to get to the doctor with 30,000,000 trying to go and use free health care?

<-Right here. I've been sick and had injuries, but have avoided the hospital. When I did go(injured my AC/shoulder), I got lucky and a gov. program picked up the bill for $1500(I paid about $190 out of pocket). Though, this is small compared to many illnesses and serious injuries many people have.

and would have gotten better help for your injury if you had insurance?

moral of the story, get a job with insurance. hell, unemployed or disabled can get free/subsidized care. it's better than just being poor but working.

I live about about an hour from Windsor, Ontario, which as we all know has socialized medicine. From everything I've read in the local papers, it can take as long as 3 months to get an appointment with a specialist in a non life-threatening situation. Many Canadians still come across the border to see specialists here or for 2nd opinions.

I got treated before they asked for ins. :p

My bill is small compared to others, only reason I went was because I thought it was serious injury, otherwise I wouldn't even go. I think if I had insurance, yeah, they would have done more, maybe(seems like they were trying to get my in and out quick since it was a holiday). I was in pain for 2 weeks. All they did was x-rays to make sure nothing was broken, and sent me on my way.

THIS IS THE ISSUE.

PEOPLE STILL VIEW THINGS IN LIFE AS FREE. THERE'S COSTS ASSOCIATED. TO PROVIDE THAT "FREE" HEALTH CARE, SACRIFICES MUST BE MADE ELSEWHERE.

Money is a scarce resource.

My wife is an ER nurse and they treat people the same regardless of coverage. They can be sued big time if they don't.

People need to understand that one of the main problems with our healthcare system is the aging boomers. It's simple supply and demand, nobody on capital hill wants to talk about that. We are also a country that abuses healthcare. My wife's ER is right next door to an Urgent Care unit. She estimates that Just over 50% of people who come in their during her shift are either pill seekers or would be better served by waiting until morning and seeing a GP. Now, take all that and add in our fast food culture, childhood diabetes is reaching like 1 in 4 levels. No tax system can support that burden.

If you want healthcare reform, start with HEALTH REFORM. But people don't like that because it means they have to change as opposed to "evil insurance companies" and "the rich" doing all the change for them

that would require people to take personal responsibility for their actions.... and we all know that shit aint happening any time soon... its far easier and more comfortable to blame someone else

It's all world health.

Other people being sick affects me. I'm healthy as a horse. But other people drive up my doctors costs. Making it expensive for me.

I've never been injured and besides needing some tumors (lipaulmas) removed in the next year, my insurance(self employed) is through the roof in the last 5 years (started paying it at 18) just because of malpractice, rising insurance costs, and the degrading world health we deal with.

What is world health? Obesity. Pandemic. ETC.

I have to agree. Our culture is uneducated. Our health care ranks 37th in the world system. We lack preventative care. We need preventative care. And in case, people without health insurance don't get it, and get worse enough where they are treated and someone eats the costs.

Here is the double edged sword. If everyone had the ability to go to the doctor and get treated would people get the preventative care necessary? Or would people still ignore simple stuff slipping into the same spiral we are in? Clogging hospital hallways, backing up ER's. etc.
