Recalled 646,000 units because 3 failed? That is the lowest failure rate I've ever heard of in a recall.

I was just about to post this and name the thread "Breaking News: Fit not as perfect as pickles proclaims!"

i have seen about the toyota recalls a bunch of times on the headlines on the weather channel but the tv is always muted so i don't hear it

from the videos i think it has something to do with the gas pedals?

In the United States, about 2.3 million cars are affected by the accelerator pedal could wear down and become difficult to depress, slow to spring back or get stuck partly depressed. And some 5 million cars have a design flaw that could cause the gas pedal to become trapped under the floor mat.

In addition, the Ford Motor Company said Thursday that it had stopped production of some commercial vehicles in China because they used the same accelerator pedals built by CTS, based in Elkhart, Ind., the supplier whose products led to Toyota’s recent recall.

Yea, the floor mats are causing the gas pedal to stick.

thats only part of the recall from what i have gathered
some of the throttle cables are getting gunked up and seizing while the throttle is open (or some shit)

same basic effect i suppose

people are all freaked out over this... i guess they cant figure out how to shift to neutral and apply the brakes then turn the car off

some fucking people are entirely too stupid to be allowed to operate vehicles

i can tell you from personal experience that its not very fun driving ANYTHING with a sticky throttle
snommobile, atv, dirtbike, car
all no bueno

throttle cables
Doubt it. Damn near all manufacturers went to drive by wire about 6 years ago or so.

I say they have a faulty throttle motor getting stuck and/or another input sensor to the throttle motor is at fault or has some sort of electrical interference.

:shrug2: not really 100% sure what its all about... i havent been paying much attention... i dont own a toyota... or anything else new enough to be effected by this... so my "give-a-shit-o-meter" has been hovering near empty on this one

all i know is they said throttles are getting stuck open when people take their foot off the go pedal

beyond that... i got nothing

It's gotta be something so stupid they are to ashamed to actually let the public know lol.

I don't know if they started selling the cars again but on tuesday I seen on the news that they stopped all sales of 8 models. Can't remember off the top of my head which ones exactly but they weren't going to sale any until the problem(s) were remedied(sp?) and it was going to cost them 100's of millions of $ doing so. Why they just won't temporarily go back to a cable actuated throttle body w/ a tps so they don't lose out on tons of money is beyond me...

i like how the media is saying this a huge blow to the reputation of japanese vehicles. between the honda recall and the toyota, that makes 2 major recalls.
how many do american cars have?
people are fucking retarded.

plus, the gas pedals in question were made by an american company.

Maybe Honda is doing this to show up Toyota... "look our super humongous recall is really simple and stupid, you're just screwed."

:D

every car company has recalls, Hell Ferrari had 16 recalls for model made between 2000-2007...that a shit load of recalls for the amount of volume they move compared to Chevy's 54 recllas

Still, the engineers who designed these parts have shamed their families and ruined their reputation.

I love that about the japanese.
