Jeffie...I FUCKING HATE Apple with a passion...

I finally broke down a year ago and bought an IPod...6 months later it stopped charging, affirming my deep hatred of and suspicion towards Apple...I have not fixed it yet.

Did the battery completely drain before you tried charging it? If so, use a USB wall charger. I had that issue too; just took it to the Apple store, and they first charged it through the Mac in which the problem I had before showed, then tried the USB wall charger and it worked fine.
 
oh cool I'll just go buy a wall USB charger to make it work right.
One option would be to change the battery... oh wait, can't do that either.
 
One of the livebloggers at the announcement said the the whole audience literally groaned out loud when they said they were still using AT&T.
