...has a job!
All these threads suck...trying to think of ways to revive...

get a job hippie.

Haha, asshole. I'm trying hard. I've tried everything. Sold Honda for a week...hated it. I was getting licensed to sell for NY Life...decided it sucked and I don't like commission only. Worked as a Marketing Assistant for three weeks but was more of an assistant than a marketer. I need to make a fucking salary and work a steady 40-100 hours a week. I am fucking married. There are expectations. FML

Also, I applied to Access like three times and have yet to hear back. Ironically, what they do is what I would LOVE to do. Creative, tangible product, all that shit. I love marketing and PR. It is intriguing to me.

learn a new skill

Like what? I have thought of getting an associates in electrical engineering just to make myself more marketable. No one wants to hire a career business student with no good work experience. Also, there is so much tech/defense manufacturing and development in Southern NH and Northern MA that it would be to my benefit to have a technical proficiency...

like anything you're interested in. You don't have to go to school to learn stuff.

I taught myself how to program, run websites, and SEO. and look were we are today... we have a website that i run and manage pretty dang well and i work as an SEO consultant.

degree what?

what do YOU want to do?

but you're hitting up the coinstar

i'm broke, yes. i'm not making what i used to by any means..... going from 120k to 40k is a big lifestyle cut. i have a huge mortgage.

but, i'm working for myself more or less, don't have a commute, work the hours i want to, etc etc. life is pretty good.

i just got a small raise and we're working on adding a new service that i'll be running which will also increase my pay, so, it's stepping stones right now. just gotta stick it out

I want to own a bar/restaurant. It would be very beer centric with the best most odd and obscure selection anywhere in Southern NH. The food would be simple but customizable. The whole experience would be unique and tailorable every time to every personality or mood.

I want you to be able to come in every day for a year and only drink the same thing twice if you want to. I think that we are going to be experiencing a strong shift away from wine connoissuering to beer connoisseuring in the near future.

It has already begun as the general BL drinking public is becoming more aware of the variety, flavor, and type of beer that can be had.

There was a bar in Pittsburgh that was similar. The variety of beer they had was unmanageable lol. It was such an adventure every time, like "wtf am I going to try this time?"

Either that or a full-serve bikini gas station somewhere in SoCal although, my wife would have a fit

there are jobs out there. you just have to be willing to take them. sounds like you just didn't want to do the jobs you had.

anybody who can walk and talk can get a job right now. you just have to be willing to take them. remember the saying, "any port in a storm". when times are bad, just paying the bills is good enough.

While you are right, the struggle that I am experiencing is this:

So I take ANY job, knowing that it will not last and risk having the rug pulled out from under me again?

Or do I take my time and find the right opportunity...something sustainable and long term?

Also, I said the same thing before I got laid off...

I challenge you to quit your job and try to find another one right now. It is not nearly as easy as it sounds. Ya there are JOBS paying $7.50 an hour...retail etc.

I have talked to a lot of HR people recently and they are getting 300+ applicants for basic retail jobs and upwards of 1000 applicants for more professional jobs. The job markets are flooded with qualified people.

It's easy to be like "just get a job, duh?" when you already have one. Trust me. I didn't believe anyone was jobless until I became that guy...

If you want to own a bar/restaurant, get out there and do it.

Look for retail space for rent
get a possible menu together with recipies/etc
get a beer list together
research liquor permit laws in your area
find/research possible investors
draw up a business plan
research wholeslae accounts for food and beverage, local micro breweries, etc

sitting on your ass bitching about it does nothing.
And if you think owning a restuarant is not a 100hr a week job, you're in for a rude awakening....

I am not bitching. I am already writing the biz plan.

Also, I said I was comfortable working 100 hrs. a week.

When I cut the ribbon I will have an HS drinking night. Everyone can come up and drink 50% off or something lol. That would be sweet.

ive had a few job offers for IT, higher than my base salary right now. but they lack commission.... where i make the big bucks.

yes, because you have bills to pay and shit to do. it's better to have a job you might lose than no job at all.

I challenge you to quit your job and try to find another one right now.
i wouldnt' do that. however, i would take whatever job gets me income and then keep looking for something better with any spare second i get. you have no loyalty to an employer precisely for your reason listed above. they can cut you at any time. well, you can cut them too if something better comes along.

thats why you go to non-hr job postings. walk around, i see jobs all over the place. sandwich shops, retail, construction. places are hiring. walk in with a good attitude and work ethic and you can get something.

i know that there are a lot of jobless people. but the thing is, YOU have to make a decision to turn it around. like B said, learn a skill.

there are some options.

A)go to school. you can take some classes. it's better than playing video games and playing on hondaswap. and don't say money isn't an option. you can get grants and loans.

B) learn some skills. you can apply for an apprenticeship. hell, you can learn some programming and computer skills. all you need is a book. you can go to a library for free, or you can buy some books at barnes and noble or borders. and if you have absolutely $0, steal one. hey, it's wrong, but how bad do you want to change your life.

C) for anybody under 30 and healthy, join the military. pays for school, it's easy to do, and you get money.

I should have mentioned that I am a part-time chauffeur right now. I make between $10-$20 an hour depending on the client, the destination, etc. I make enough to pay my bills but I work weird hours and it is not consistent. Some weeks I work 3 days and make $500 and some weeks I barely work at all...

I am often up at 3 AM or getting home at 3 AM. It's ok though.

You would think an MBA would be sufficient and that I wouldn't need programming or web development "skills" to get a job.

Just spent the last 6 years in school. Fuck money. If I can't make it work now, extra school is not going to help.

Again I am not a skill-less hopeless dead-beat. I have a ton of talent and marketable skill as well as great education. What I don't have is work experience, at least not relevant work experience.

Change my life? I went to grad school a year after I finished undergrad so I could change my life...wtf. I can go to med school and law school and engineering school but what is it going to get me? $100,000 in debt, more lost time, and no promise? I am a very disciplined and demanding of myself. I NEED to work with what I have.

C) for anybody under 30 and healthy, join the military. pays for school, it's easy to do, and you get money.

I have actually been pondering that lately. A lot of successful executives started with military careers. I am not completely opposed to it. I would do my four then GTFO.
