I am building my gsr block and my question is will it be better to get a type r head if im planning on boosting? i hear everyone say get a b16 head and i know its a poormans type r, so i figured might as well get a type r head instead since everyone gets either the itr cams or gsr cams. but i know the itr head flows better than the gsr head.

i was planning on getting a b16 head but around here they are difficult to come by and when i do find them people are asking like 700 average. i found a itr head for 500 so im gonna get that if it will work for my build.

i already have a p28 ecu which i will be putting in hondata s300, do i get a gsr engine harness or type r? is there a difference? i am also getting the gsr hydro tranny, does anyone have any advice on a good clutch to pick up based on experience?

thanks for the help and any advice would be appreciated. this is all happening in the period of 2 weeks so i need help quick, dont want the head to get sold before i get an answer :D

itr head will be just fine for boost
theres no difference in harness
ACT makes great clutches, i personally have one in my ls-turbo build

If you can find an ITR head, I'd get that over a B16. Might aswell since like you said, most people upgrade the valvetrain anyway.

yeah and since the one you found is $500 (about the going rate for a b-series vtec head lately) just go with that

500 is cheap for an ITR head, jump on that.

as far as clutches there are lots of good ones, i like the ACT clutch and flywheel setup i have now, but i also really like clutchmasters. had one for 50k+ miles and it still felt good as new.

ACT clutches are good and all but I prefer exedy stage 2 3 puck they are sick and pedal pressure is not as agressive as ACT or CM.

x2 $500 for ITR head is a steal, don't waste no time that will sell quick.

$700 for a B16 head? Wow! I can find them all day for $300-350. But Type R for $500? Nice find but have it checked by a macinist for cracks, need for a valve job, etc before you install it....maybe even before you buy it.

i'm sure its literally a steal.. or its just a stock b16 head, since they have the same casting #'s
Word up! Could be very very true and if its a B16....too much $$$ You can check the cams....if you take them out.

well i was about to pick it up like you guys said, it seemed like a deal. but when i talked to him he said it was the jdm type r head so it didnt have a , i quote "vtech pressure switch and it had oiling problems, when i went around corners it ended up scoring the cam and the cam journal". didnt seem like a deal after that. so i didnt even bother. there is another guy selling a type r head but bare that i was thinking about but its a bit much, he was asking 500 for it too.

so if i were to just go with a stock gsr head is there anything you all would recommend i replace before i boost it? i am replacing the cams if i get it i do know that.

why replace the cams? gsr's have a great profile for a turbo setup
stock GSR head will flow you well into the 500's with proper tuning

i do recommend going with a new OEM HG if possible. replace the valvecover gaskets and cam seals. have the valvetrain checked out. you may need to replace some valves or some seals. maybe even guides depending on the mileage. go with a hondata intake manifold gasket if you plan on turbo.

do it right the first time and you wont find yourself doing it 2 or 3 times for the same result

ok so then here is the main question. i picked up a stock gsr head. i want to get the heat port and polished, should i go with .5 or 1mm oversized valves and get a valve job or stay stock but get new valves? i plan on replacing the guides, and guide seals, springs and retainers because i know the guy before me raced the car so i dont want to risk anything. i will probably stick with stock cams to save a little moolah. hondata intake gasket and new headgasket, oem or is there a better one to get?

So my d16 engine on my acura 1.6 el went to waste and i need to swap my motor to make my car run again. I am gettin a motor for $450 and it has the bottom end of a d16z6 and the head n manifolds of a d16y8. I was told that it would be a fit and all i would have to do is change the tensioner off of my old motor onto it. I just need some advice to know that i am not making a dumb decision. Thanks to everybody that replies to this.

I no im not supposed to do this but its crucial for me to find out what exactly to do by tonight. Thank to everyone that helps.

replacing valves would be a great idea, especially for boost,i recommend intake valve upgrade to ferrea cause of meltdown usually occurs on the intake side, oem on the exh will be sufficient, double springs on both, porting will be dependant on your budget, mild or wild, ive had my pnp done by brent fraser and went very wild for lots of boost,2k worth in the head alone, head gasket i went with cometic standard thick,84 mm bore, just be sure your budget and time frame for completion can handle it

its simple, if you know you shouldnt do it then dont, you wont get any replies from it that way. start a thread and keep bumping if you have to but dont start that crap.

well time isnt too big of a deal i am driving my ef while i build the motor then i will pick up a shell and drop it in. all valves will be replaced with something like eaglei just dont know if i want to go oversize or not, i dont really know the pros/cons of going with bigger valves. money isnt too big a deal since i have time so i can buy the parts slowly. im just trying to get everything in order so i know what i need to get first.
