Hi all. I'm new here. I built a 1988 honda crx dirt track race car. The car has a DOHC ZC, L3 cable tranny, short ram, header, lightend flywheel, and 14" wheels. I have not raced this car yet but practice is next weekend. My question is the motor seems to run very rich and rpm needs to be about 2300 before I give it full throtle or it back fires. I am running a pm6 ecu. I also have a pm7 witch is what is supposed to run the ZC but the pm6 seems to work better. I do not have the o2 sensor hooked up and also no cat. Dose this sound normal? Also any tips to gain power would be great. The track is 3/8 mile so 2nd gear at red line pretty much the whole time.

To start with, if you don't hook up the O2 sensor your ECU goes into limp mode- meaning it dumps fuel like crazy and pulls timing to make sure you don't grenade your engine because it thinks that it can't read the air/fuel mixture. Get that O2 sensor hooked back up first.

The catalytic converter shouldn't be an issue on the non-OBD ECU.

As Calesta said - your car is a dog because you got rid of the O2 sensor. Hook that thing back up.

definitely pics. I have thought about doing this with all of my spare engines. Something fun for the FWD class and easy to fix if anything gets torn. Good luck and be safe.

like the others have said... without your o2 hooked up, your ecu and doesnt know how much fuel to put into the motor.. so its dumping it in there

Hey new here as a member but not as a lurker. Stumbled on your crx build through google. Im building a 90 crx dirt track car for Madras speedway in Oregon. cage coming in the next 1-2 weeks. what are you running for a dash panel(ign switch, starter, gauges) Im still ton between easy(keeping key) or custom full on race panel.

not trying to thread jack but heres a pic of mine

everyone likes pics;)

my local track is 3/8s as well..so heres some tips..
first listen to them about your o2 sensor problem
secondly..either put a taller tire or a 15" rim on the front of the car..it does make for better lap times and you wont be as high in the rpm range when your on the straights..
our local track doesnt allow the use of anything aftermarket other than a cage, fuel cell, racing seat, and slotting of the strut tower for camber purposes..
