projector hid compatibility

so i have been looking everywhere and i have not been able to find any hard results. what exactly makes a projector headlight hid compatable. do they need glass lenses to withstand heat or cut-offs or....??

ok so what i have noticed (on ebay) is that a lot of the projector housings from, ex. the teg and tsx, are metal and some have glass lenses and some have plastic. so im guessing the lens dosent matter but the housing does. so i am going to get a set of projector headlights (chrome with out halos) and measure the diameter of the projector and find an oem with a metal housing and the same measurements and go to work with my dremel. i'll let you guys know how it goes. might even do a write up. never done one before but have seen plenty of them and if there is an interest i will do one.

IMO.. use the stock headlights and retrofit a projector.. if you get some cheap headlights, the heat may melt the plastic lenses

If you're doing it for looks, you're doing it for the wrong reason. People who install HIDs for looks just grab cheapo $30 kits and blind the hell out of everyone on the road anyway. I hate those people.

You need deer whistles then, not glaring headlights that are dangerous to other drivers.

i am doing it for increased visability. i have silvania silver stars in now. they just dont project as well as i have seen projector beams. i am going to start with a new chrome projector set and fit an metal oem hid projector in the headlight housing. i have already researched a bit and i know it can be done. and im going to make sure i have cutoffs at the proper level so i dont blind everyone and add to THOSE people.

although i dont like the aftermarket headlights.. i think it would be best to do the projector retrofit with them because they generally have clear lenses. the stupid stock fluted lens screws up the nice projector cut off line

thats exactly why i am going to use an aftermarket projector. and i finally found a set without halos. so ill get those in, bake em and pull it apart, measure the lens then get the same sized eom projector and go from there. ill let you guys know how it turns out

well first of the thing about hid is you have to have enough clearance for the bulb because of how long it is. and then you need to make sure the lens is indeed glass.

on top of that i dont think tou need to do a custom job if you are looking for a stock light with a clear lens. i have seen it done, just get someones aftermarket ebay lights with glass lenses and bake them reomve the lenses and put the lenses on the stock head lamp assembly. then you san put the hid's in there and there you go, clean line and everything. if you really want projectors then it might need to be a custom job unless you get decent ones that have glass lenses and a good plastic thickness or a backing like the oe headlights.

It's the reflector in the incandescent headlight that screws up the beam pattern, not just the glass. HIDs into normal headlights = fail.

it actually wasn't that bad. the actually had almost the exact same beam pattern as the silverstars but were a hell of a lot brighter
