Retail for this whole setup would have been about $700 or more... now I can really do some work at home! This is what happens when you've been spoiled at work with top notch circuit processing equipment- then you go home to a piece of crap wood burner tip $20 junker iron.

Now that I've moved to an area where I can't just go down to the shop and play with motherboards/ECUs I finally have my own setup. I can't wait until it shows up.

You electronics manufacturing guys will understand. ;)

We use Hakko and Weller these days, the Hakko are pretty damn good and are reasonably priced

I have a slew of different wattage/tip size irons, and a couple of guns.. And a solder sucker thingamagigger. They work well for the things I do.. I only have about $100 invested in all of it, though.

i have a nice weller solder station. love how quickly it gets hot. most of my soldering now though is little and easy stuff, no real reason to break out the weller anymore :(

i loooove my benzomatic butane iron.

i thought it said soldier station .. hahah.. i was like WTH?!?

This is only about $140 with shipping, so not so horrible. I just love how the Metcals never lose heat, start up in a few seconds and are cool within seconds of shut down for fast tip changes. I do need to get a sucker though- but those are about $10 at Fry's. I normally use braid to wick up excess. All the tips I'm trying to get are the lower temp 500F and 600F tips- hopefully those will work out well enough!

I've got a butane- LOVE it for doing work under the dash during stereo installs. It sucks waiting for the heat to build up in the tip though.

Well, that's what Metcal calls it when you buy the system the right way with all the pieces in one box. ;)

Nice find. Seriously jealous

:D
