I wanna do a swap on transmission to a CR-V transmission with drivetrain. I have a 1990 honda crx with the 1.5l engine and automatic transmission. I am hoping that a CR-v transmission and drive train/suspension will work. Does anybody know if it will work out or not?

Step 1: Sell the CR-X
Step 2: Purchase a CR-V

Done! :D

On a serious note though, if you have to ask how to do this, then you don't have the know-how to do this. Just take it to a shop and tell them what you want done. Most likely they'll tell you not to waste your time, which is my advice as well. You'll spend a lot more then the car is worth to make this work, and even then it won't be a performance-oriented AWD car, it will just be a CR-X with a wimpy compact truck AWD system and horrible gear ratios...

Plus, the crv AWD system blows. it's a complete waste of time. buy a subaru or audi or something if you want an awd car.

you can use the civic wago awd but honestly only a few people have acually done this and spent $20000 in reinforcing the frame and all that stuff.

If you are a body shop that does extensive repairs all the time, and you have the equipment, it wouldn't be too bad.. But just a guy in his own garage without the proper tools is going to take forever, and tons of $$.

Im a 3yr experienced NATEF certified Auto mechanic. I have done removal and installs of engine, transmission , and drivetrain. Thanxs for the info guys thats a big help

you seriously dont want to waste the effort doing a honda awd system. they are a joke. they arent a 50/50 split system and only send about 10% power to the rear of the car.
just enough to legally classify it as an awd system.

:werd:

With your experience you might be able to pull it off, but I just don't think it's worth the effort for that particular AWD system...

you wanna do something awesome and totally worth it?

if you really want an awd crx.
swap a full STi conversion in that bitch. awd system and all.

just as much work, and equally a pain in the ass, but the payoff would be sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much more.

you could go with something out of a DSM, thatd keep the cost fairly low (in comparison to an STI) and even stock that CRX would haul
