Do work
So I've had sleeping issues, for quite some time now. It's currently 4:30 AM in Pittsburgh, Wednesday morning, and I've been awake since 7:30 AM Monday. It got bad all of the sudden, where I can't sleep for days at a time. I'm exhausted, but I lay wide awake in bed, on the couch, anywhere. I've considered insomnia, but I'm unsure as to what classifies you as an insomniac. I've also considered that I might be bi-polar, due to the fact that I have mood swings in which I'll snap out on someone for no reason at all, and pretty much just tear everyone else around me down emotionally. But again, I don't know all of the details about being bi-polar. I guess this is more of just a rant than anything, because I'm so angry that I can't sleep. Shit maybe I have anger issues then as well?

I'm finally going to the doctor today, to discuss all of this with her. If any of you have any insight as to what it may be, feel free to post. I'm exhausted, I'm going to play some MW2.

P.S.
I've tried a number of sleeping aids, and I feel that I'm just assisting my body in becoming completely immune to them. fml.

You must be sleep deprived. Its only Tuesday morning lol. Do you have the mood swings while deprived of sleep or just whenever? Mood swings can also be due to the lack of rest.

I get in shitty sleep schedules due to being third shift through the week but trying to keep a normal schedule on the weekends. I honestly fix it with alcohol, not that I recommend it.

Same thing happens to me every now and then.. Recently went through a 2 week period where I just laid in bed bored to death.

Try running every day. Get your body physically tired, not just mentally tired. Short of that, booze it up. I had some days where i'd get drunk, and lay there drunk. And that really sucks, but it sometimes works. Or watch TV at night. Instead of laying in bed thinking "SLEEEEEEP" just watch TV.. It keeps your mind from racing and may bore you to sleep.

And +1 on the mood swings being linked to the lack of sleep, that will make you one grumpy bastard.

I had Insomia for about 4 years. Finally i started taking Melatonin 5mg about an hour before i wanted to go to bed and about a few months of this routine i finally established a normal sleeping pattern.

Before that I would be awake all night into the morning with no sleep. I actually took a 3rd shift job working at a bowling alley cleaning the lanes over night with the oil machines. I took another 3rd shift job at a company where B worked :p.

MINI PUT FTW B

Yea that's kinda why I took a third shift job. I used to love working nights but Im tired of missing things because of it. So come April im changing it up after four years Thursday.

Yeah I had the same problem when I worked nights as well. The weekends were terrible.

The TV usually puts me right out, that white noise in the background has some magical effect.

Or, how about Tylenol PM or something along those lines?

Edit:

Just noticed you said you've tried numerous sleep aids. Never mind.

tylenol PM blows, just leaves me in a semi conscious state and miserable
i used to do 3 excedrim pm's every night, 99mg of "sleep aid" from 3 of them

i hear good things about trazadone
mainly prescribed for depression with a strong side effect of knocking you the fuck out
literally, try and walk and you will walk into walls or doorways

sidenote: this drug is on tagets 4 dollar list up to 150mg pills. 50, 100 and 150 i think
4 bucks a month, or $10 for 3 months supply
you can't buy any over the counter shit that cheap

ask you doc about it, might help with your bi-polar symptoms as well

melatonin is good. it doesn't put you to sleep, but it helps you sleep better.

if you can, get your hands on some ambien or lunesta. combine it with a tab of tylenol pm. you'll get some sleep. might not fix your long term problem though.

are you still working out? do you drink much caffeine?

I've managed to train myself to concentrate on absolutely nothing while trying to go to sleep, and am usually out after 10 minutes or so... Heck, I guess that's pretty much the definition of meditation?

My mind is racing when I try to go to sleep... I'm thinking about the day, or I've got a song stuck in my head, etc. But I realized... What's one time that you can truly 'hear' silence? When your mind is totally clear?

When someone says "Wait! Listen!"

You strain to hear whatever it is they're trying to have you hear. You have nothing going through your head, you're not thinking of anything, just concentrating on the silence, trying to hear that sound that may or may not be there.

When I'm trying to go to sleep, that's the state I can keep myself in now, almost at will. It's really peaceful and I'm out like a light.

I don't think it was meant to be used this way, but to get myself to that state at first, I used the phrase "If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?". I'd tell myself "Wait! Listen! There's a tree falling!". I'd keep myself in that state, listening for that tree to fall, thinking of nothing else.

My mind would wander alot at first... As soon as I realized I was thinking of a song or something other than silence, I'd just jolt myself back: "Wait! Listen for that tree!" I'd do that as many times as needed, and the next thing I know I'm dreaming/waking up in the morning.

I never understood it until I had used my method, but I finally (and unintentionally) realized the meaning of the meditative phrase 'What is the sound of one hand clapping?'. It's pretty much the same thing. You listen for the clapping sound but there's no second hand to make it. My way just works better for me.

Of course you need to try and sleep somewhere that's totally dark and as close to perfectly silent as possible, at least at first (or at least some white noise, like a fan, to cover up the background noise). It takes real dedication, but it saved me from not being able to sleep at all unless I was dead tired, to being able to almost sleep at will and get up when I need to.

Diagnosed with chronic insomnia today.

The mood swings have always been around, their intensity is random. I actually used to drink a lot and that helped me fall asleep, but couldn't obtain restful sleep. I actually quit drinking entirely when my girlfriend informed me one Saturday morning that I beat the hell out of some kid at a gas station while I was drunk, simply because he said that his system cost him more that mine cost me. I remembered arguing with the kid but not about what, or remember even fighting him. I'd rather have chronic insomnia than wake up and wonder if I hurt someone the night before, over something so outrageously petty.

I had Insomia for about 4 years. Finally i started taking Melatonin 5mg about an hour before i wanted to go to bed and about a few months of this routine i finally established a normal sleeping pattern.

What brand melatonin is it, if it even makes a difference? I've tried GNC 6mg extended release, and melatonin is the one thing my doctor didn't advise me to stop taking since it's something your body creates naturally.

When someone says "Wait! Listen!"

As soon as I saw this I thought about playing Ocarina of Time lol.
None the less, I never thought of trying anything like that, and I'll definitely be giving it a shot tonight.

Anyway, my doctor gave me a list of sleep health tips. Forgot to mention that I'm trying to quit smoking, I smoke a little over 2 packs a day. I've tried cold turkey, and copenhagen just to at least get the smoke out of my lungs, but I get entirely too stressed out, which I know plays a factor in my lack of sleep. But if I just don't smoke, I tweak. So she wanted to prescribe me Chantix, which is supposed to be a miracle stop-smoking aid. But she can't because of my mood swings. So first on my list now, is to see a psychiatrist. And how does that make me feel? Fucking annoyed. I need my motorbike back on the road I think.

I can clap one handed and I am not kidding - I can do it.

Hahahahahahahaha

Yes, when I was young it was a habit lol. I since quit the nightly habit, you know, sex came into the picture, but I've tried a few times with no luck.

weren't you working out a lot? i know it helps me with my sleep patterns. when i get lazy, i sleep like shit.

eat a big plate of turkey and pasta before bed. you'll get fat, but you'll carb-crash and triptophan crash :)

I said a rub n tug, not beating yourself off lol. Or whatever. I say that because it is quick and easy and requires no effort on your part lol.

Wait, what's a rub and tug then? Lol.

@B, If I knew how to cook a turkey I'd do it lol.

@95b16, I was working out but I started getting pains in my shoulder and elbow that make it impossible to use sometimes, so I had to cut out a large portion of my workout. That's probably half of my problem, actually.

See you guys get me thinking.
