Especially Airjockie ;)

It's still a ways off, but just last week I purchased my plane tickets for my Asia trip next spring. I'll be spending 7 days 6 nights in Tokyo and then 10 days 9 nights in Hong Kong. We arrive in Tokyo the afternoon of Friday, March 19th.

The Hong Kong part is kind of easy for us to plan or rather we don't really have to plan. I'm going with a couple friends who are from Hong Kong and have relatives there and speak fluent Cantonese so they have a good idea of stuff to do. Japan on the other hand, none of us have been to before so it will be a whole new arena for us.

Were about to book our hotel and at this point were looking at the Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku, being that it seems to be very centrally located and just a couple blocks from the Shinjuku station.

What I'm mostly looking for are ideas on things to do and places to go see. The only things that I know that we plan on doing is going to the Imperial Gardens to see the Cherry Blossoms that hopefully will be in bloom by that time, and also on Sunday we plan to go to the Harajuku area to see all the people dressed up. Other than that were pretty much wide open for things to do. I don't know if we were going to try to go to somewhere else like Osaka for a couple days, I know I really want to get some awesome Okonomiyaki, I would think Tokyo would have some great places around.

Well that's about it for now. I know its a long way off, but I've been on vacations before where I didn't do any of this kind of planning until the last minute and then found out about stuff after I went and was disappointed I didn't do something, so I figure the more time I have to plan the better.

well, I think the Osaka Auto Messe is going on around that time...

One of my coworkers is leaving saturday for a 2 week trip in japan. He and his wife bought a 1 week unlimited train pass for the entire country. They really have no schedule. Just go to a city, check it out, and leave on their terms. Sounds pretty cool to me.

Bump...my trip is getting close, I can't believe its only like a month away. My trip got pushed back a week we actually fly on the 25th of March now.

We decided that for one night we'd stay somewhere other than Tokyo, so we booked at night at a traditional Ryokan in Nikko, which is about a 2.5 hour train ride from Tokyo.

Has anyone whose been to Japan ever stayed at one of these before? We wanted to go somewhere with a bit of history that wasn't that far from Tokyo and we wanted to go to an Onsen(Hot Springs).

Done and done, they are great.

I read that most don't allow swim suits while in the hot springs. Is that correct?

I only ask because I'll probably leave my main suitcase at our hotel in Tokyo and just take an overnight bag to Nikko and need to know what to pack.

Well, I made it to Tokyo.

Here is a picture of the view from my roome.

We got in at 3:30 pm after a 12 hour flight, and took us like an hour to walk from Tokyo station to our hotel by the Shiodome. After we checked in and got some dinner then went and walked around the Shinbashi district.

This place is awesome!

good shit man. totally jealous.

anyway, ive got a few friends from all over japan, specifically tochigi (home of the GTR and Fairlady Z), Yokohama and Fukuoda (Western Japan). Ill ask them whats there to do.

Off my own personal list, if you like electronics Akihabara is the stuff. Lots of computer gear and random eletronics like toilet seat heaters. And I heard Ebisu and Ikebukuro are cool places for shopping and arcade stuff. All places are around Tokyo area.

Lastly, i would definately hit up Osaka. They are really known for their food and cheap drinks.

Ill text them and post up it up when i get a chance.

have fun

Thats pretty cool wish i was there.....oh..... And what todo? Look for a hot ass asian wife.........to bring home?

Awesome!

It might be a bit far from where you are, but a friend of mine is leaving to Japan in a few weeks... He's planning to WALK the ENTIRE Shikoku Pilgrimage. All 88 shrines, on foot. 745 miles. He's taking 3 months to do it.

He's 51!

Wow...only 2 days in and my feet are already starting to ache. We went to both Akihabara and Roppongi today.

I got to play for a while in one of the arcades I was looking for so that was a lot of fun. Also went to a good Okinomiyaki place at the top of one of the big stores in Akihabara.

Here is a link to all the pictures I've taken so far.
