mine recently locked up i just got a new one need to find how to swap it in?

pulling this trans should be easy. jack the car up. disconnect battery. remove front wheels. remove front axles. remove intake pipe and filter housing. drain trans. discinect clutch cable and any electronic sensor connectors. remove starter. suport engine with a jack under oil pan. remove upper trans mount. remmove the flywheel cover plates under the car. these are the plates at the rear of the oil pan covering the lower part of the transmission bellhousing. some cars have only one plate while others have two. if the car is an automatic, remove the torque converter bolts now. you will need to rotate the crank pulley clockwise to do this. remove all bellhousing bolts. remove front motor mount if necessary. you should now be able to hold the trans from the starter hole and pull the trans free of the engine and lower the trans to the ground. be sure to not put the jack supporting the engine anywere near where you will be setting the trans down. also make sure the jackstands are not near that same area. you should also inspect and replace the rear main seal if it is leaking and inspect the clutch. call me if you have any questions.661-940-5645 rick

okay i use my mac 1/2 inch impact for this. get the car up. put your 19mm impact socket on your impact. tak off the lug nuts. all 8. next grab your 1 1/4 impact socket and get the axle nuts off. remove the 17 mm castle nut from the lower ball joint an the control arms AFTER you remove the cotter pins that pass through the castle nuts. seperate the steering knucke from the lower control arm and push the axle through the hub as you do. you may have to use a hammer byt dont damage the threads or splines on the axle shaft. do each side. now grab a large flat screwdriver and pry the axle out of the trans.put the screwdriver blade between the axle and trans joint. once the axle pops out you can easily pull the axle out. on te driver side you have to remove the 3 14mm bolts that hold the axle to the block at the intermediate shaft joint. the passenger side doesnt have these extra bolts

If the 32mm axle nut is stuck, you can pop the center cap out of the wheel, put the wheel back on, drop the wheel on the ground, then impact it or jump on a breaker bar.

To pop the lower ball joint w/out damaging the threads, get a pry bar / crow bar - you'll need to find one just the right size and a slight taper works the best - wedge it in that slight overlap surrounding the ball joint that hovers just over the LCA, and hammer it in. You'll feel it pop and then you can lift the knuckle out. You can also try jacking up the knuckle and putting the crow bar in the opened gap, then quickly releasing the jack. When the knuckle sinks back down, the gap shrinks but with the crow bar in there it pops the ball joint.

I can't remember whether it's better to have the lower shock fork connected or disconnected. I have to see it. But you can decide whether it's better to have the spring pushing on the LCA or not.

you don't always have to take the axle nut off. pop the ball joint out, unbolt the strut fork from the lower control arm and strut rod. then simply set the spinle aside, axles and all, after you pop the axle out of the trans and intermediate shaft that is.

if youre taking out the trans you want as much room as you can get. remove the entire axles by removing the nut. you will turn more nuts and bolts trying to move axles and hub bearing assembly.

^^^ Transmission pulls suck...clutch changes for that matter too lol....especially all shade tree mechanic style like I have to do it. I fell ike a monkey effing a football as I try to seat the trans against the motor lol I think I'll try to use a cherry picker and rope next time...see how it goes. I'll tie that bitch up like a pork roast lol

using a cherry picker will require you to pull the trans out the top. it will be easier to drop it out the bottom. get your car up high enough to slide the trans out. you can use a cherry picker to lift your trans back in place if you rig it in a way that you can get the trans seated to the motor without the rigging getting in the way....or you can gt a gym membership and just lift the trans in place. thats what we do here
