hey guys,
please forgive my grammar. I am college educated, and cant do a simple task.
OK, Brass tacks..... I put a 91 ZC (from Japan) into my stock 90 civc Lx A/T.
I used the Plethora of DPFI to MPFI writeups and now three harnesses later and fights with my pop, I have the resulting condition......Crank but no start, turn on key and PGM-FI relay started buzzing.
what does the orange and black plug go?
where is my map plug? and yes, I swaped the green and white on the tps.
I must use the PM6 ecu? i figured out the shift interlock will need a bypass circuit.
i have been fighting with this for a month at two hours @ a time. I cant bring it home and work on it and figure it out in a few hours due to logistical issues.
i read all the other trheads and I am not one to be know as a notorius "Thread-Jacker" I usally try to filter through and then ask about what i cant find.
otherwise im a complete and total idiot when it come to electrical:confused:
if anyone can help, please email me or hell, even call me here is my number/ address...... 909-949-6212 message / hersweetwesley@aol.com
i need my car back and i cant wait anylonger i have been on the bus!
thanks for any help or brilliant ideas.
Cheers.

Start with the basics. Your engine cranks... check. You need both fuel and spark. Test each plug wire and make sure you're getting spark. Does it smell like gas at the tail pipe after you crank it for awhile? That would indicate you getting fuel. Check all of your grounds. A poor or unattached ground can cause a no-start situation. Has happened to me. Lastly, you need the MAP hooked up correctly for the car to run decently and idle. Even without it, the car should make some attempt to fire up.

if that dont work i have the bullets and gun you can shoot the car with :) seriously though, you can also check for fuel by smelling your spark plug holes when you check for spark if you do so by pulling each plug and test it on the wire so you can see it. the plug holes should smell like fresh gas from you cranking the engine checking for spark. i check for spark with a timing light. just move the spark plug wire clamp from wire to wire and see if the light flashes when you hold the trigger and crank. this test the wire for current but you cant see if the plug sparks like this nor can you check for fuel

Would it still run if you have a manual dizzy in an auto car?

good question....let me cross check their oem numbers real quick. whats the year and make and engine size? i'm not real familiar with engine families. what kinda car did your engine come from?

Crank but no start, turn on key and PGM-FI relay started buzzing.
do you have the ground wire attached at the thermostat housing? - this is the ground for the ECU, main relay, shielding and most of the sensors - has ring connector on it and comes out of the engine harness next to the thermostat housing - see picture below - ground wire is at upper right
what does the orange and black plug go?
the white 2-wire connector with orange and black/yellow stripe wires went to the tandem control valve on the DPFI - not used on the DOHC ZC
where is my map plug?
the MAP sensor connector is not on the engine harness - it comes directly through the firewall behind the MAP sensor
I must use the PM6 ecu?
in order to run it correctly (lock-up solenoid, etc.), you need the JDM PM7 ECU for automatic - you can also use the 88-89 (not 86-87) Integra PG7 for automatic or as a last resort, the 90-91 Civic EX automatic PS9

there were 3 different distributors offered on the 1990 civics. they varried between si models and other models and there was one distributor only used on the 2WD wagons. the 4WD wagon used the same dizzy as all the civics except the SI civic. honestly i didnt even know they made a 4WD wagon. now as to the one you have, my system only ges by year, make, model, and engine size. i need all that for the engine you have now. what kinda car did it come out of? if you can get me this info i can give you the OEM number for what you should have for the dizzy and you can match it against what you are using now

+1 on the t-stat ground. On my first engine swap I forgot to hook that ground wire up and had almost the exact same problem. Main relay was buzzing, the check engine light was on dimly, and the motor would cough and sputter but not run.

ok fellers, here is the victim...... 1990 civic 1.5 DPFI A/T Pm5 ecu never touched........
AND THEEEEENNN............
this is what i got so far.....

#1 replaced dist with 92 zc (grey plug)
#2 cranks w/ no fire. ok, i have hot into ground @ dist neg lead to coil. i ground the coil and discharge the secondary voltage and pop in a hole, so i have fuel and air, no spark.
i was running a pm5 on this test (stock) i ran a pm6 but nadda. i blew a fuse and almost earned magic smoke (ozone).
so i need a Pm7?
here is what i have screwed up so far.........

R&R D15B2 w/ 92 JDM sohc zc with all grey plugs and the map is on the 12 oclock @ the TB.
i followed the directions on the net for adding the cyl sensor and two injectors, i moved B10 &B12 and spliced them to C1 & C2 respectivly
A3 & A7 to the other injectors
switched the TPS wires and.......... NADA!
di i mention i have B+ on both leads of all my injectors, and the buzz relay and dim check light.
OY VEH! somebody please?
its going to a shop this week so any input for the tech would be ideal!
I do really appreciate all the help guys!

91 ZC....I dont know much about ZC motors but I do know they can be SOHC DOHC VTEC non-VTEC. I would guess your 91 is the SOHC non-VTEC but you are using a VTEC dizzy?? Could this be a problem in you not getting spark? I would think a 88-91 Si Dizzy would work (if your motor is what I guessed)

sounds to me like you are trying to run an OBD1 engine with OBD0 ECU - you need OBD0 distributor with OBD0 ECU - you also need MPFI ECU like PM6, PM7, PG7, PR4, etc. - PM5 or PM9 DPFI ECUs will not work with MPFI engine

^^^ OP said 91 ZC so with that info....it a OBD0 motor....right??

its OBDO i am trying to run a PM6, stock is a Pm5.
now we find out that the distributor is for a 92?
im so pissed! american cars and well, just about any body's prior to 1987 jump the coil flip a switch and vroom! shiaatsu massage man! this is the most complicated undertaking in the history of my victimization of the automobile.
ok, am i supposed to be getting voltage on both leads of my injectors?

and the shop is booked for two weeks so?????? but, i think it is something stupid guys it always is. the injector thing worries me. both leads hot with a body ground? but the rubber would insulate from earth right? and my buzzing relay.
i am not even sure this motor is even a 91. i have a sneaking suspision its a 92. but can i run the serial?
i want to make my brother in law stick both those EVOs up his ass! (06 CT9a & 10 gsR) they the 06 is setup correctly but the 10 is a POS i want my lil bucket II to run.
we had an 82 civic (yes, a CVCC) and we put the motor out of our uncles prelude in it and it was a screamer. but it was cut here, weld there. and it was ALL motor and needless to say...fun.
this is making me want to junk this car as i do not sell my vehicles.
so,
OBDO ZC (JDM HF) motor, OBDO car, Pm6 ecu, 90 civic lx D15b2
WTF??????????
and see, i cant even get this spell check to work!
GIVE ME BACK MY POLUTING CARBERUATORS!

ok, i think i figured it out !

i am trying to run an OBD1 DAMN IT!

so if i change intake and injectors i should be kosher yes?
and the dizzy ofcourse lifetime @ autozone so its all good!

any ideas, or if im off track please let me know!
Cheers, off to the scrap yard!

if youre in cali would you sell what you have if yore planning on going to the scrap yard? maybe i wanna deal with it.dam that 82 cvcc must have been fun as hell :) we had an old suburu station wagon that was a blast. we sawzalled the top of that 4 door turboed 4 banger and blasted around the desert because we didnt have licenses or insuance or registration. man i think that car is still at our old friends house in his back yard....might go see if i can get it LOL

im thinking i need to replace the intake assy? or just have a bad ground according to another post on another board. im gonna try something in the morning.

You can run everything OBD0 (like the PM6 you got) but the distributor needs to be OBD0 like the mate for the PM6 you spoke of (which is the correct dizzy for the ecu) Or you can run a ZC dizzy for your specific ZC and the JDM ECU. You have a OBD0 motor, with a OBD0 car and multiple OBD0 ECU's....so you need a OBD0 distributor.
