What would it take to put a D16Y5 into a '94-'01 Integra? I was thinking of having a low budget luxury car that got good gas mileage.

I've never done one of these engine swaps but I've done some research and it sounds like I want the engine, transmission and ECU from the HX, and a 5-spd integra shell car. Will it bolt right in and all of the electrical work? What am I missing? Would a different engine be better?

I know it will be slow but I'm not looking to race it, just drive to work. I also plan on lightening the car a little bit as well to help with that.

Yes it will fit and work. It will bolt right in but I doubt it will wire right up. What year is the shell? What year is the motor.

Cool. I don't have them yet. I just started researching and shopping for some good deals.

It goes by year. 94-95 is OBD1, 96-98 is OBD2A, and 99+ is OBD2B.

dont put a single cam in a integra.....Please dont! if you want great MPG's get a b16 with a LS tranny. I got 36mpg on the freeway. Plus I really dont think a single cam will bolt right up, you will need diffrent mounts that I dont think anybody makes. A b16 will bolt right up no prob.

Bs drop directly into EGs. Why wouldn't the opposite be true?

I've seen a D in a DC before. Generally though, there is a Civic with the DC's B sitting right next to it.

I didn't say it would get better gas mileage either. I just said it would fit and work.

I have a weekend car that is fast but gets bad gas mileage. So I really don't care how fast this car is other than I don't want to get run over.

Thanks for the info on the OBD. What is an EG and DC? Do you think there would be a better engine for gas mileage than the one I'm talking about?

EG is the chassis code for a 92-95 Civic. DC is for a 94-01 Integra.

If you want better fuel mileage, just drive differently. If you can't drive efficiently, then I doubt the d16 would get much better mileage than a b18a/b, or a b16 for that matter. In the end, your resultant fuel mileage varies greatly by how you drive.

Just use everything EG, and it will physically bolt up. IIRC, there was some foreign Integra that came with a SOHC.

D16Y5 should get better MPG than any other D-series minus the D15Z1 btw. Only thing about the D15Z1 is it's designed to use the 5-wire O2 and works best with the specific ECU.

^^ I agree

Cool, well now I'm looking into the D15Z1. I assume it will bolt in place, and try to get the ECU from the donor car. How will it work since it's OBD I and the later model integras are OBD II?

word, and the sohc integras was awd to

Well, first of all is it legal where you're at? If so, you'd have to stick with the D16Y5 which is already OBD2.

You'd pretty much just wire in the 5-wire O2 sensor and use a OBD1 to OBD2 jumper harness.

One thing you might want to research is the weight.. If you put a smaller displacement engine in a heavier car, It will have to work a lot harder because of the lack of torque from the extra displacement.. It may make the mileage even out between the motors, except maybe on long cruising drives.

You can make a B18 teggy get 30mph very easily.. Just use a few hypermilling techniques. Hell, if you went all psycho I'm sure you could get 40 out of it.

IMO, 30MPG isn't good enough because I managed to get that with my Accord which is at least 300lbs heavier than a Integra and has a 2.2l engine. :)

As long as it's not strictly city driving, I don't think it would be a problem. Though, a better candidate would probably the JDM D15B 3-stage VTEC with short FD and a long 5th and possibly 4th to make up for it.
