call me communist if you want. but sometimes "freedom of speech" goes too far.

Dad of a fallen Marine perseveres against protests at military funerals - Yahoo! News

Albert Snyder, whose son, Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder, was killed in Iraq, learned Friday that a federal appeals court is requiring him to pay more than $16,000 in legal fees to the Westboro Baptist Church, a Christian fundamentalist group that demonstrates during military funerals to gain attention for its antigovernment, antihomosexual message

Military funerals have become pagan orgies of idolatrous blasphemy, where they pray to the dunghill gods of Sodom and play taps to a fallen fool,” states a press release posted on the church’s website, announcing the rally at a memorial service for Lance Cpl. Justin Wilson. At the bottom of the press release are printed the words “Thank God for IEDs,” referring to the roadside bombs that have killed thousands of troops in both wars.

carrying signs such as “Thank God for dead soldiers,” says Albert Snyder’s attorney, Sean Summers.

This is where the term "absolute freedom" should come into play. You want to protest a funeral? The funeral goers should have the right to kick the shit out of the protesters.

I've said it for years, I'm will tell my believes to anyone and I'm willing to get my ass kicked for them as well.

Good luck getting that money though. I'd tell them it's in my safe next to my gun. They're going to have to take both or niether.

There's also a group of vets that go to the funerals on Harleys to try and insulate the service from these wacko demstrations.
Yea, veterans are on my short list of people not to fuck with. I have quite a bit of respect for them, but even if I didn't, I wouldn't.

yeah, reading the article on yahoo the other day, that group leader has no fucking clue what he's talking about.
he just stammers on saying things that are considered bad.
its like he isnt actually paying attention to what he says, and just throwing random words in with "fags, gays, homosexual, war, god, punishment."

why cant we have a random sniper like in DC a few years ago, except he only goes after pain in the ass people like this?

Free speech isn't free, it means having to listen to fuckin idiots, which can sometimes be a high cost.

yeah, it was a kick ass movie. i've pondered the purchase. but yeah, you could go a whole work day saying nothing but gran torino quotes.....hmmmmm

Bill O'Reilly is picking up the court costs for the Dad.

And those people are just fucking stupid. Slush is spot on, you want to take freedom of expression to the extreme then prepare to have some boots expressed to your face.

Ps. Gran Torino is badass.

I'd like to see legislation scaling justifiable escalation of violence.

ie:
Someone angers you, you're allowed verbal assault.
Someone verbally assaults you, you're allowed physical assault.
Someone physically assaults you, you're allowed deadly force.

People would solve their own problems.

I like it...

Rules of Engagement for civilian life.
would make things so much simplier

Shit maybe if people would actually beat their damn kids then we wouldn't be raising douche bag's that expected to be treated like a winner every god damn minute of their life. Hell my old man was telling me when he was a kid that friends of parents/grand parents would whoop some ass if they caught you doing stupid stuff.

when i was growing up i knew that if i acted like a jackass i was going to be appropriately disciplined for my actions... and it didnt matter if it was my parents who were the ones to catch me or not... it could have been an aunt or uncle, grand parent, friends parent... didnt matter... and then later on when my parents found out id catch another ass whooping for embarrassing them

im not going to lie and say that i became a model citizen... but eventually i learned how to keep my shit on the down low, far enough off of the radar, so as to not get my ass beat any more

people in this country have completely forgotten that there is a difference between "discipline" and "abuse"... kids NEED discipline... they can not develop correctly without it... which is why there are so many little idiots running around acting like fucking douche bags today

[/rant]

and it didnt matter if it was my parents who were the ones to catch me or not

remember when you were young and your parents would say to their friends, "if you see him fucking around, beat his ass?"

i remember being scared to get in trouble because of OTHER people, not just my parents. lol

That is exactly it. When my buddies and I got caught doing stupid shit at each others houses we got our asses beat at least twice.

I just don't understand why they're protesting military funerals because they don't agree with subject matter that has nothing to do with it.

The protests have nothing to do with the fallen service members' sexual orientation,

Then why go there to protest the government's stance on homosexuality?

I'm all for free speech, but pick your audience accordingly.

It's simply a matter of publicity. They know by doing this they can get media coverage. Their strategy worked.

They are claiming that God is punishing the United States because on the whole Americans have no problems with the GLBTQ community. From what I can tell they are saying that every death in the US is because we are not all railing against "them dirty homos". They are just a bunch of twisted ass weirdos.
