i have a 99 si that i wanna do alot of stuff to my plan is to turbo it i dont know very much and am learning as i go along, i also dont have alot of money but i want to do everything right with no cheap stuff so i would do it part at a time the turbo would be the last thing i would get? after i build the motor my question is if it would be bad to have the motor set up for a turbo such as having skunk2 cams that are the turbo stage is it bad to run them and other internals without having a turbo on yet? thanks in advance

No reason to install part by part as you buy them. Just wait unitl you have everything and put it all together at once.

i think hes asking about internally.

its not bad to run a turbo built engine naturally aspirated until you have the turbo setup, but you should have it tuned after you get the engine rebuilt, and then tuned again when you put the turbo setup on.

thanks that was exactly wat i was asking, i just wasnt sure if it would run like shit i make plenty of money to do it over a month or 2 i just dont have 2 grand to drop on the turbo kit aswell as another 2 grand for all the internals, thanks again

no problem.
in fact, it might be better for someone new to the game to break in an engine N/A, then turbo it later on.

break in with the turbo on there can be kinda tricky, as it is more difficult to keep a turbo'd car (especially a honda) leak free most of the time.

just make sure you get it tuned even after just the engine rebuild. you dont want a bad seat on the rings because of too lean or rich of an AFR.

a few more tips:
-get a wideband
-make absolutely sure the engine is leak free on first start up(my recommendation is to use all OEM gaskets and seals, they work best)
-breaking the engine in is a weird time, just drive it like you normally would. thats the best advice ive been given so far.

I'm currently looking into a turbo setup. It's very costly if your going to do it right with no ebay setup. What i have found is that tuning is the most expensive and most crucial part of the endeavor. You can find greddy on craigslist that need rebuilt from 100-500 depending on size your wanting. I'm new to the game so sorry if i step on anyones toes with my opinions, but i have spent the last 2 week researching forced induction and found it to be well worth the time.

ur on the right path w alot of research. i got my turbo kit off ebay it still works very well.. but it also was brand new only paid like 500 for mine.. but since i sold the car i took it off and now got to find a turbo manifold for my b18.. lol... good luck bro remember w a new turbo they recommend a 500 mile break in before u boost hard on it .. or at least thats what i was told.... anyway good luck bro.

awesome. research is your best friend. it is exciting to see someone taking the time to do things right.

ebay parts are hit and miss honestly. some are decent, others are complete shit. the best way is to just avoid them completely, or at least that is what i have found.

tuning is typically expensive, yes, but also the most crucial part of the build. the tune can make or break your setup! make sure the person who does the tuning is both experienced, and someone you trust. get to know your tuner before they tune.

i wasnt planning on going anywhere near ebay stuff my local tuning shop has a greddy turbo kit that was used as a display its brand new and never ran on a car ive been giving him 400 every 2 weeks and he gives me each part at a time until i paid all 1800 for it which i didnt think was bad after seeing them go for 3200. i was also wondering if that setups any good and if it produces alot of power i pretty much jumped on it for the price and him aloowing me to do payments.
