Hi, so I just changed my transmission, threw a new release bearing, check pressure plate and clutch and everything is fine.
Except that when I started the car, I could not change gears, feels like I can't put pressure on the pressure plate.

The clutch slave cylinder was changed recently, could it be my master or should I look somewhere else?

Car is a 93 Civic, with a '96 B18B with an hydrolic clutch, I also have a Stage 1 Pressure plate.

check inside the car around and above the clutch pedal.. see if its wet w/ any fluid/grease

Yeah, should have said that I could feel some brake fluid on my finger after touching the master from inside, I thought it could be normal for the ''cylinder'' to be slightly oily. Guess I was wrong.

Ok, I'll explain it a little better...

My Clutch pedal, feels fine, but I can't get into any gears.
I ajusted the pedal freeplay to the maximum...
Now I can get the gears to work, but still, it feels like I can't completly press the pressure plate. I have a brand new master cylinder, I will change it tommorow, but wouldn't my pedal feels soft if I have a leak that could prevent me from shifting?

Remember that I have a Stage 1 Clutch, so if it would become softer, I would notice quickly.

Thank you once again...I am quickly running out of ideas out there.

If you do have leaking on your master cylinder then that will be your problem obviously. If its easier for me to explain why it'll all make sense.

Your master cylinder is designed to compress DOT3 Fluid with one cylinder piston, against another cylinder piston which creates force against a clutch fork, that presses your throw out bearing. Your TOB then presses against your clutches pressure plate, the pressure plate releases from the clutch disk which is transferring torque into transmission from your engine. Now you have have gears with in your transmission that are moving at two different speeds, and a synchronizer with in your transmission slips onto teeth to match those two speeds and to lock the gears to a shaft and transfer your torque to an output shaft and then on wards to wards your differential gear and thus to your wheels etc.

SO, if your clutch isnt being released enough to allow your synchronizers to lock onto the wanted gear, then its obviously not going to go into gear.

Thank you for the detailed explanation ^_^.

I was septical, because I could barely believe that such a small leak could cause so much troubles.

Master Cylinder was changed, now I can sometimes, get a gear in, sometimes not, the fork gets pushed back, but still it does not go all the way.

I could get a drive around the block, until it started not engaging first gear and I could feel my pressure point on my pedal, even when it was fully pushed in.

What the hell!? I'm getting kind of annoyed now, could it be the slave? or something else..

Did you bleed it enough? You might need to flush it out and just bleed it a bunch? Worth a try after you've changed master/slave cylinders. Check all the connections from master to slave, as well.

i had to change out the CMC on the teggie yesterday.. crapped out on the woman while she was at work

you need to bleed it more.. make sure all air is out of the line

I bleeded it till there was no more air, still, the fork does not travel far enough (When I look at my friend Teggy, in which it goes further) Should I expect the fork (Where the Slave Clutch Cylinder pushes) to travel all the way to the other side?)

I'm going to get a brand new Slave tommorow, changing the master helped quite a lot, lets see how changing the slave will hopefully finish the job.

they say its best to change them at the same time... a slave cylinder can be bad and not leak.. so that'd be my next guess

Thanks, lets hope it fix the damn problem, before I sell the damn car :p

jus a curious question- when u say u "adjusted freeplay to the maximum" are u meaning the maximum allowable freeplay? too much freeplay will also cause ur fork travel to be shorter than it should be.

I mean, that I tried and failed, to remove the freeplay. I got the explanations in the other thread, as to HOW to adjust it correctly. I was doing something wrong so I could never get the fork to travel all the way.
