Just wonderin what everyone is using, and not having problems with. My subscription to Norton just lifted and Im wonderin if I should go ahead and spend the 60 bucks for a year, or get somethin else.

just keep your computer squeaky clean. i use c cleaner to make sure my directories and everything stay in order.

free = microsoft security essentials, AntiVir or Avast. imo, free avg has become bloated and scanning heuristics arent as good as other programs.

if you're feeling technical and want to read up on vbulletin, scanning results, etc... here is a very very good resource:

EliteKiller.com - are you Elite?

Sweet, thanks! Im tryin a trial version of ESET now. Once thats up, Ill look at some of these other ones.

AVG Free
MBAM
Spybot S&D w/ TeaTimer

even with all the fucked up places i go and all the shit i download i have managed to stay clean

I like Avast. I've used AVG before, works fine but seems like Avast is better at catching things faster.

AVG Free
MBAM
Spybot S&D w/ TeaTimer

even with all the fucked up places i go and all the shit i download i have managed to stay clean

:concur: yet my brothers retarded ass girlfriend seems to get Internet AIDs every 6 fucking months. "will you look at my computer, I dont know what happened" well you obviously didnt do what I told you to do 9 fucking weeks ago when I put it through chemo for the 5th god damn time.

AVG Free
MBAM
Spybot S&D w/ TeaTimer

even with all the fucked up places i go and all the shit i download i have managed to stay clean

So you use all 3 together?

yep

all free versions...
AVG runs all the time and does automatic updates and scans nightly
the TeaTimer feature is always running and alerts me to anything that tries to do any weird shit
i update and run Spybot's Scan and the "Immunize" feature about once a week
i update and run an MBAM scan about once a week
(they each get stuff that the other doesnt... and i dont get any noticeable performance hit with them so i keep them)

usually nothing is found on any of my scans
usually TeaTimer doesnt start freaking out
but on the occasion that something does happen to get on my computer, i am alerted early and am able to cut my internet connection... and run a scan with definitions that are at worst a week old

i also have a few other things that i keep available on a dedicated clean up thumbdrive like this little program called rKill

Rkill – Repair Tool of the Week

The malware world is changing. It’s getting smarter.
In fact, some infections will detect that you have launched an anti-malware tool such as MalwareBytes and close it down as soon as you open it, which makes your job much harder. This is the exact situation Rkill is designed for.
Rkill is a small, freeware and portable tool designed to terminate active malware processes allowing you to use other removal tools. Rkill is made by a Microsoft MVP “Lawrence Abrams” and is available in 4 different extensions. An .EXE, .COM, .SCR and a .PIF file.
The reason why Rkill comes in 4 different versions is because some malware will block .EXE files in an attempt to prevent you from running other malware removal tools, so this gets around that problem.
I tested this tool on a virtual machine which I had infected with a fake antivirus and Rkill killed the malicious processes without any problems. Of course, I then had to delete the malicious files manually as this is not a malware removal tool, but a malware process killing tool. It just stops the malware from running right now, allowing you work your computer technician magic.
and a few randomly named MBAM executable files for those times that the malware in question is blocking MBAM from running its usual .exe
