Does that answer your question, and didn't we already cover this:

Well this thread can be about the Slate specifically. I am excited to see it come to market. Hopefully it will spur other companies to help flesh out the market and actually illustrate a reason for me to purchase a tablet.

HP has had some pretty good stuff come out in the last few years, their laptops are getting better, and they had that touchscreen to compete with the Mac, pretty good stuff.

i want a pad i can write on.

oh, and one with a dvd drive. i know they can do it, they just need incentives. and it wouldn't make it too thick, just have a slide drive or whatever it's called. don't do the whole pop out drawer.

A dvd drive would add way too much thickness to a tablet. Streaming Media>Digital Media>Physical Media. You're thinking too 1998, optical drives suck.

As long as it has USB ports you can always plug a portable dvd rom in but more than likely you will want to use some sort of external media, thumb drive or usb hdd.

i just dont' like the idea of having to download a movie to a computer just to transfer to a pad. i would like to dl it from the disc to the pad.

That's why the tablet has wifi/cell connectivity. You download straight from a streaming service. One of the problems is, all the streaming services suck.
I guess I don't have a huge dvd collection to consider. All my stored media is digital, so that makes it more versatile.

plus you have to pay for them. so $9.99 and shitty movie selection leads to bad streaming.

i have a ton of dvd's. like i said, i would like to use a tablet for travel. movies and pictures would be great. if that is too ahrd to do, it's worthless to me.

Rip all your dvd's to .iso files and setup a HTPC. Then, never buy physical media ever again.

so my 250 dvds would need an external. i would however like a hard drive to store them to. ideally i would have my dvds on a hard drive and i could just watch them on my tv. dont' know what i need for that though. not without having a computer hooked to the tv.

Well, ya you need a computer hooked to your tv. Even wireless HDMI is "hooking a computer to your TV" if not directly. But this thread isn't about HTPC's or MythTV setups.

A tablet would be awesome if you had your own FTP site with streaming video, but I am not quite savvy enough to hook that up.

I havent really followed tablets much, but reading around, vendors like MSI, ASUS and HP are releasing some with Android and possibly Win 7.

If these eventually get down to $300-400 or so, I can really see these being helpful to students that are in the math or science field.

I mean, have you ever tried drawing a physics problem with a OneNote or paint? lol.
