Just curious as to who out there is a golfer, how often you play, and what type of scores you shoot.

I personally have an on again, off again relationship with the game, and right now I'm on again. I started playing when I was 9, played pretty seriously all through high school and my early 20's, and I really enjoy it.

Once marriage, baby, wife health issues came into play, I sorta put it on the back burner, and really for the last 4 or 5 years have only played 2 or 3 times a year, still managing to shoot in the mid 80's for an 18 hole round. I've got an outing coming up in 2 weeks with some friends, so I figured I'd take advantage of the nice weather we've been having here in the midwest and I've hit 4 buckets at the range in the last week or so. I've really started to enjoy it again, and hopefully can find the time to stick with it.

I used to play as much as 4 times a week, and could fairly consistently break 80 when I was in my early 20's.

I married into an avid golfing family. during the spring I usually play 18 holes a week but once summer hits and I am off I play anywhere from 36-72 holes a week. So far I have been out 5 times with a best score of 94 keeping in mind that when I am out with family we count every stroke. No mulligans and no foot/hand wedges out of a bad lie. I am sure that if I stopped playing baseball my golf score would go down as both swing styles don't mix very well.

Currently in my bag:

Big Bertha Calloway irons 2-PW
Nitrix (cheapo) sand wedge
Nitrix (cheapo) 5w
Taylormade Superfast 3W (Brand new and pure sex)
Taylormade R7 driver set up with a slight fade.
Oddessy Two ball mallet putter

Adidas golf spikes
Tall plastic type tee since I can use them over and over
Taylormade TP Black balls but I am looking at the Pentas to try out. I know the balls are expensive but I read somewhere you should hit what you can control the best from 50 yds out and I can control these like I am placing them on the green by hand. From 150-160 out they hop and stop for me which is where I need them too so I stick with them and I can usually find them on a 2 for 1 deal.

I love the game and it is fun when you can consistantly see your score dip lower and lower. My goal is mid 80's as both my brothers in law are scratch golfers and my father in law has 4 aces and a double eagle on a par 5 (driver - 3W) which he didn't see go in the cup.

Amateur.

I play maybe 18 holes a summer, not much of a golfer myself, but my dad... well lets just say he holds the record of 100 holes in a DAY for 2009.

i can't remember the last time i had 14 hours with nothing more important than golf. life sucks. :(

I once played 72 in a day on an unlimited golf vacation package.

And definitely the baseball swing and the golf swing don't go hand in hand.

I tried to play softball for a couple years but it screwed up my golf swing really badly so I quit.

I am assuming that he was part of a fundraiser. Those are pretty common but I have never participated in one. I would love to though.

I am doing a 27 hole challenge on the 24 of this month. My Father in law consistantly walks/rides 54 holes in a day but he works for a local course and will finish 18 find another group of guys and go out with them - rinse and repeat.

Most I have done is 36 in a day or 18 a day for 7 days in a row while on vacation.

My favorite course to date is Discover the Rock in Wisconsin Dells | Wild Rock Golf Club in Wisconsin Dells I played there on their opening day for 40.00 which is normally 95.00.

if i could harness my baseball/softball swing into a drive, i would consistently drive 350yards. but i slice to shit every time.

Yeah the mechanics of the two swings are radically different. It really helped my drive to slow down the back swing/tempo and aim about 30 degrees left of target :)

The thing about the golf swing is that there really is no "right" way to do it.

Whatever works for the individual is the best swing, the key is being able to repeat it over and over.

With a good driver, even I could smack the ball around 150-200 yards, but my problem was always pushing it way to the right. After observing me a few times, my dad would notice on my downswing that I opened the clubface. Of course when I'm swinging I can't see this. After he told me I was doing that I would close the club face in toward my feet and I never hit it off into the brush again. Simply aiming one way or another from my intended target never helped me much, but if you have a problem one way or another try either closing or opening your club face and see if that helps.

I know - The aiming was a joke......I had to get a x-stiff shaft and slow down my swing tempo to help straighten out the drive. I also tend to leave the driver in the bag on most holes as I can usually go 2 iron or 3w off the tee box turf about 220-240 so I don't loose much from not taking out the big dog.

i play.. not much though... my best round of 18 was 95, and i was playing good.. otherwise i suck.. lol.. but i still enjoy playing

I play weekly. Mostly pretty decent courses. No junkers anymore. Not since I started keeping track of my score and stuff.

I'm an 18 handicap. I average around 90ish. I'm about to break into the 80's though. My problem is putting. I have 40 putts a round, but I'm regulation otherwise. I just can't put to save my life.

And in my bag:

Cleveland HiBore XLS Monster Driver 9deg stiff
Cleveland Hibore XLS 5 Wood Stiff

Ping Rapture 21 Degree Hybrid Stiff

Ping I-5 Irons 4-PW

Cleveland CG10 54 and 60 degree wedges.

Odyssey 2 Ball BLADE Whitehot XG Putter. It's going to start saving me some strokes when all these greens get better. Lately they've all been arrated(sp)? so I'm not consistent at all.

I dont play much, a friend of mine is damn good, won state tournaments in high school, I usually go with him cruise around in the cart and drink beers. :D

I have clubs. Got my grandfather's back up set when he passed in 2000. My dad got the good ones. I've been out to the range with them a few times. Haven't played a round since I was little. I want to get back into it though.

I just plain suck at golfing but I have a set of Walmart Top Flights. I will probably go about 6 times this year plus hit the driving range allot.

The thing that changed my game the most was getting my Father in laws one year old irons. They are Calloway Big Berthas but they could have been any golf centered brand (ping, mizuno, titelist, ect.) that you can't find at your local big box store. I would highly recommend to anyone interested in golf to go to a golf shop (local mom and pop, golf galaxy, Dick's, etc) and get fitted for both a ball, and your clubs. You really do get what you pay for when it comes to clubs. I am not saying that you need to drop a grand on irons and 500.00 on a driver but don't go out and get one of those cheapo sets. I know - my first set that I purchased was a brand called Nitrix where I got everything including the bag for 149.99 plus tax. You can get barely used quality clubs for a pretty reasonable cost as clubs are alot like cars in terms of resale.

After getting the irons and driver that I have now I went to my local Golf Galaxy and had a fitting with a certified club fitter. They checked my club length, lie angle and grip size. What I found out is that I had the correct angle and needed larger grips for my clubs. I currently have the Lamkin Jumbo/Oversized grips which I like. They said that they weren't sure if I needed to add length to the shafts because my swing needs some help due to the baseball influence I mentioned before.

Next I showed them my driver and told them that I had no budget to upgrade at this time. They helped me switch the weights to give me more consistant ball flight and they also suggested that I get the new grip on that as well. Last but not least they had me hit some different brand balls looking at things like ball spin and launch angle. That is how I decided on the Taylormades. They are a little more pricey than some but not as expensive as others. The best part is they work for me. The best part was that all this cost me was the price of the grips and grip install I think it was less than 50.00. It helped me get from the 110's down to where I am now mid 90's in one season.

I think I read somewhere in a mag that April is PGA free fitting month so it might be worth it to check it out.
