Backstory:

Not much to tell really, did a favor for a friend, his friend, and a mutual friend between them. In return I've procured what I believe is a 92(?) Honda accord that has the f22a? (its pictured below but I can't make it out) To the best of my knowlege it needs some motor mounts, and a bit of tlc.

It's a 2 door coupe. Don't think I've seen any of this body style that weren't 4 door. I've noticed a bit of body damage on the drivers side, but it appears that some careful taps from a body hammer on the back sides of the panels will straighten most of it out. From there a bit of body filler should straighten her out.

So, what can anyone tell me about these cars? Anything I should be aware of rust wise? What about the engine tranny combo (it's an auto) any problematic areas I should be aware of?

alright Honda swap... lay it on me.

My friend had one, 230K+ on the clock with no first gear, broken ball joint that ripped the CV out of the tranny and mangled it was the death of it, pretty bullet proof car.

well honestly i owned to but this but this is the first i ever did a swap to. and honestly i love them. my first held up for 256,000 miles or so until it blew but i should of just replaced the motor but i was fresh meat in the military and wanted to ride right then and there. but they are very hard to tear up. but no care is perfect without tlc.

Well I should take possession of the little car in the next few weeks. Not sure what I'm going to do with it, but it will receive a bit of attention and possible sale should I not decide to keep it. I believe the engine is an f22a6. I kind of like the body style of this car and as some of you know I've got the 89 hatch that I re-aquired, fixed and am in the process of selling back to my little brother (what can I say the boy is hard on vehicles) He owes me about another 300.00 or so on it and it'll be his once more. I've got another build I'm currently elbow deep in (mustang build.. nothing of note really) turning a v6 into a v8 for the wife, so I may keep this little accord to play around with afterwards. Toying with the Idea of fixing current issues, both known and unknown, and giving the car to my mother so she'll have something reliable to drive. Not really sure what to do with it, but I thought I'd atleast make a post about it for you all to read. Might end up like I told my wife: "Fuck w/me and I'll paint it pink, powdercoat the rims pink and call it the pink panther."

Yeah you have an EX so that is the F22A6. Um the normal honda rust spots, damn quarters... other than that those cars are retarded solid. You'll run into the typical honda problems but that's it. Might need to change a main relay at some point, the AT computer might go bad, you may need to clean your IACV one day (well there is three dif valves on the EX intake mani), and then the ussual wear parts. Got 280k out of mine before i hit a deer with it, now some other kid is still driving.. best car i ever owned. I need to find another one with a cleaner body...

As far as rust goes, just watch the typical Honda rot spots (rear quarter panels). If those are clean, then it's probably a pretty clean car all around...

on my second of these cars now. both were four doors. first was a five speed with now 300k on the car and engine. a buddy of mine is driving it, still gets 34mpg on the freeway.

my maroon car is the new one i got, 150k on it, runs like a top and hasnt given me any issues.

watch out for typical honda stuff at higher mileage. solders on the main relay, wire decay around the battery, etc

Not sure what the "older/higher mileage Honda" stuff is. This technically is my second one and I've only owned the first one since Jan. LOL I'm a RWD guy, come on now. BUT, I get what you guys are saying, wear items should be checked/cleaned/replaced as needed. The bit about the relay, and tip to check the battery cable are most appreciated. I'll be sure to check for the rust as well.

Thanks, you guys are a bit of alright for WWD folk. [/sarcasm]

well i know a common problem with cb7s is the automatic ecus tend to fail, but since you have a manual that isnt a concern... lol

other than that i dont really know of too many problems with these. theres a reason theres a ton of them on the road with high mileage
