im new to tuning hondas and tuners i was in american muscles but decided to switch to tuners and crotchrockets i had a question i have a 1997 honda civic ex with a d16z6 engine what turbo can i put on her without blowing up the engine just to give it a little more power not looking for something major like 6 to 8lbs any help would be appreciated

If you want a simple solution, 14B DSM turbo. Small but not too small.

The better solution would be to learn about turbos and pick exactly the right one for what you plan to do. There is a sticky-ed write up about it.

you have a lot to learn.

forced induction is both the easiest way to make great power with a Honda, and also the easiest way to screw things up in a heartbeat.

the d16z6 is a solid platform to turbo, probably one of the best single cam engines.

6-8 psi does not designate anything. 6-8 psi is a figure that will make xxx whp on a given setup. if you look at your build this way, you'll be less prone to making a mistake that will cost you your engine.

that said, psi does have some significance. as psi rises, so do cylinder pressures (obviously). you wont really have to worry about that on a stock boosted setup.

my recommendation is this: either a 14b (as stated above) or 16g mitsu turbo and tune the car to ~200whp. that's a good conservative number for your first turbo setup. 200whp will get a car moving pretty well. you'll need larger injectors (cheap route would be some dsm 450's, and a resistor box because you're obd2a), and an obd1 ecu that is chipped. this means youll need an obd2a>obd1 conversion harness.

my question for you is this: how ready is your car? does it have upgraded tires, suspension, and brakes? if you answered no to all three of those, you have some serious work to do before you even consider turbocharging your engine.
