should I start looking for a new car?

As many of you know mrs. Taco bought her first civic many years ago.

Well I noticed last week the valve cover gasket is leaking baad and the brakes are really shaky at higher speeds. Rotors and gasket both need to be replaced with new. This is the start of replacing stuff here and there to keep it running right. This car has NEVER given us problems until now.

It's an 01 Civic (really clean inside and out) with 120,000 miles.

Should I be looking into a newer used car we can payoff quickly or a new one which will suit our needs for kids,outdoor stuff for triathalons and in the long run?

I can get a good deal on a TL, TSX, and other used vehicles that we get on the lot. I want to stay with Honda/Acura for a car but Subaru if I choose an SUV.

Any suggestions guys?

fixing that car is cheaper than buying a new one.

it depends more on your financial situation and desire for a new car. i say change the breaks and the valve cover gasket. you might be out $100. i don't think a lot more stuff will break. just be sure to keep up with the maintenance.

brakes are cheap and easy to replace

120k is not that high for mileage and the car will likely last several years more

id do those simple repairs and keep driving it

Pull valve cover. Put down a nice bead of Honda bond/silicone. Replace vale cover. Leak fixed for under $10. Replace the brakes. Drive the car.

valve cover gasket is $29 and i can replace that no problem.
rotors are pretty self explanatory as well.

we talked and i'll fix it and keep it for a few more years.

and yes GHeadlights....the ecu will be shipped this week. I'm holding off on the RBS intake mani for now.

On top of what was said, you already know the car. Other than possibly worrying about tires and money for gas, I bet you can hop in that car right now and drive to the keys with out worrying about anything else. You know the car is in good shape for its year and mileage, and all you have to do is standard maintenance.

Agreed with everyone else. You could always swap a k20 in her Civic so she could keep up with your RSX lol.

werd. 120k is past due for that thing if it hasn't been done. Just today I got a phone call from a friend with an 02' civic with 180k. He never changed the timing belt & it popped.

well i had our Honda dealership look at it while a safety recall was being done.

new timing belt - about to snap
VC gasket and Cam seal
something to do with correctional near the axles need to be replaced
front rotors
oil pan gasket
possible main seal

yup. did I mentioned she likes the Honda Fit sport in color Blue

for 120k miles i think its pretty good. This car has NEVER complained nor has it ever leaked oil until this month. A few months ago it has ver minor sign of oil dust around the valve cover. I havent checked the oil pan myself but I doubt it's leaking bad. We've never had oil stain anywhere besides the valve cover

we're gonna check out the Honday Fit next week and prolly fix the car and sell it for 3k. with the speakers and HID's.

You're handy right? All of that stuff can be fixed for $500. Car payment = $200/mo x 12 + more expensive insurance = you do the math. The Fit is really nice. So much damn space in the thing for what it is. Make sure to splurge for the sport with the 5 speed manual.

I got the VC gasket and gasket and rtv sealant for the corners.
26 dollars

gonna pick up the rotors,timing belt and oil pan gasket either later today or tomorrow.

we're still gonna look at the Fit and you sir are correct with thr Sport edition.

my wife is set on the Blue Sport, gunmetal wheels and with ONLY a 5 speed manual. (thats my girl)
ohh and she was happy to know it has vtec

Egads! Never changed the belt till 180k? Or did he change it at 90k and not after?
