I have an 89 CRX HF that was converted to mpfi several years ago becuase of an engine swap. Has been running great till recently. The coil went out a few days ago for no apparent reason. The car had been sitting unused for a few months. I would start it every week or so just to keep everything in good order. My truck is in the shop so I went to drive my little Rex but it wouldn't start that time. Tracked the problem down to a bad coil. Rplaced the coil and it started immediatly. I put a few hundred miles on it and it died again today with no spark. Driving down the highway and it just sputtered a few times and roller over and died.
What would cause it to blow coils? New dizzy cap and wires a few thousand miles ago. I'm scratching my head at this point.

Ad grounds faulty wires I'd go over all the wireing an reground the ground wires
I thought of that and checked the grounds but I'll do it again and add an extra as a just in case.
One thing I noticed was the + battery terminal was only hand tight as in you could turn it with your hand fairly easily. The car would crank just fine so I ruled that out as a possible cause for premature failure. I don't really want to dump another $80 for a coil until I know what's causing them to burn out.
I'm headed to the salvage today to get an entire dizzy and see what that may do. I'm normally pretty good at trouble shooting but this one has me scratching my head. After all, there's not really that much that can go wrong........I'm liking the bad ground idea more and more.

It may have been a bad ground after all. The - battery terminal was questionable. Replacing both battery terminals and the coil. With luck, it won't blow this one.
I was able to source a 1.6 fully loaded Vtec head with intake, all the sensors, dizzy and throttle body today. It has everything I need to do the Mini-Me. Now all I need is the ECU, timing belt and head gasket.
I still have to replace the coil because that's cheaper than a tow truck.
