so you are saying it just has a test pipe on it now?

if thats the case, you could add a high flow cat of some sort, it will quiet it a little. whats the rest of the exhaust like? does it have a resonator, and what kind of muffler?

you can get away with a straight through cat if you have a decent sized resonator and a nice oval muffler (vibrant, apexi WS, etc...)

yeah those exhausts dont sound good... tiny resonator thats not doing much, and a POS muffler thats not doing much.

to answer your original question, getting rid of the test pipe and adding a cat back on would quiet it a little. really you should just leave the test pipe you ahve and get a better exhaust, or at least have a muffler shop put a different resonator and/or muffler on there.

del Sol? :D

I would chop the tip off though and have a muffler shop weld another one on.

I've been listening to some Honda's with Borla mufflers/exhaust on Youtube and alot of them sound pretty nice even with stock engines.

I'm even thinking about tossing a Borla on my Sol.

That thing is not really a cat, pretty much just a test pipe. I should know I bought the same POS from ebay a few years back. I had a magnaflow exhuast and it sounded great until I added that 'cat'.

Get a real cat converter, maybe a magnaflow, and it should sound better.

was thinking maybe a bosal or magnaflow

a cat would quiet it down some but why restrict the car? unless your not really concerned about performance.

IMO stay away from magnaflow as an exhaust option, they sound horrible, Ive heard good things about the hi flow cats, but then your pretty much in the same situation your in now

i have no choice but t o buy a new cat/test pipe i bottemed my car out and it now has a huge crack going around it making it obnoxiusly loud =/

Like it's really going to make a difference on a D-series with bolt-ons?

You sound really uninformed. I'm using a Magnaflow oval muffler with 2 1/4" stainless piping and my car sounds GREAT. No rasp at all. Deep aggressive tone, but not too loud or obnoxious.

And no, he wouldn't be in the same situation with a Magnaflow high-flow cat. It actually IS a catalytic converter, and not just a test pipe. If you weren't just going off of hearsay, then you would know that...BUT...you're just going off of hearsay...

also ive noticed that my car has had a few misfires while idling it will drop a little in rpm and go back up....and when i shift in to a higher gear sometimes it will feel like the car is "puttering" almost like you let of the gas for 1/2 a sec could this be because of the huge crack going around my test tube. it was running fine about a week ago then im pretty sure the same day i bottemed out and my exhuast cracked it started happening

bump idk how my car would randomly start misfiring it was fine then all of a sudden it starts acting up...could my timing belt have jumped a tooth or could it be my spark plugs? i just changed them i checked them yesterday and they look pretty good theres a little brown on one side of each insulator

does anyone know of a place to get a oem exhaust for a 93 delsol si ebay they want 179 plus 40 shipping just wondering if some where is cheaper

Do you have aftermarket plug wires? There were some on my car when I bought it. They were Accel wires...garbage. They were causing the engine to misfire. I replaced them with some OEM wires and all is well.

As far as the exhaust goes, that price doesn't seem too bad. I would find a test pipe for cheap, then weld on a Flowmaster (import series) muffler. They sound very good and they don't look too aftermarket. I don't like the looks of most of the aftermarket cat backs and prefer the stealth look. Don't laugh, the Flowmasters sound good.

My Del Sol has a custom exhaust with the stock looking muffler...but sounds great.
