I just put in a b16b civic typr r motor in my 2000 civic si. My mechanic said it had no power with the pct (type r ) ecu so he put my si ecu back in and it ran better. Its bottoming out at 7000 rpms and now there is a jerk happening when i let off the throttle or give it throttle. Its pretty quick but i really want to use the pct ecu. Should i be? if so what could be causing the jerking and the low rev limit? also any tips on what i can do to the pct ecu to make it work? which one is better? sorry for all the questions, just confused and needing help. im using my stock tranny by the way. bought motor only.

you should be using the ECU that is for the motor, therefore the PCT. if its not working well then maybe there is something wrong, or a difference between the two motors with the wiring.

i don't know everything, but i have learned that using a mismatched ecu and motor isn't the best idea, it may work, but it could be detrimental to the life span of your motor.

thanks so much for the reply. i thought the same thing. if anyone else has any info please pass it alone. still having the jerking problem between throttle.

You're having the jerking problem because that ecu is looking for a crank fluctuation sensor that the JDM motors don't have. You need to be using the PCT ecu.

Did your mechanic say why it has no power with the PCT? Did you see this for yourself? If you didn't, what it sounds like to me is that the PCT ECU you got is obd2a, your car is obd2b, and your mechanic didn't realize you need a jumper harness to run the PCT.

Thats what i was thinking but wasnt sure. Do i buy a jumper harness or make one or what do i do there? Thank u so much man for ur reply. This helps so much.

also would this be causing the low rev limit of 6500. i know this motor should redline to like 8500 right? also since the jdm harness was too short because of right hand drive he used my us harness. was this wrong too?

they are both obd2b. the plugs are the same. all three plugs together with one small plug empty on the end. is there something special i should do when switching ecus? number of ignition cycles or anything maybe my mechanic didnt do or didnt know to do?

You gotta plug it in and run it for a bit. OBD2 actually learns how the car is running and makes adjustments for wear and tear. You'll usually see it when you hook up a scan tool and watch how the long term fuel trim is acting.

If the car still doesn't run properly, I would think the ECU is faulty, seeing as how that's the main cause of the motor running like crap.

i got the PCT plugged in and everything seems to be doing fine but im still getting a throttle hesitation at low rpm. when u sit idle and give it gas it sputters till u get above 2500 rpm. and it is still jerking when u let off and on the throttle riding down the road. is a knock sensor an issue? really not sure.

the crank sensor will not cause the jerking. This is solely for the ecu to detect misfires.

Sounds like the map sensor and tps plugs are flipped. Try switching them.

Have you checked your timing? If so...was the car at running temp and was the service connector 'jumped' before you adjusted the timing?

I had a slight hesitation when I put my swap in and the timing was way retarded for some reason. I advanced it and it all went away

So I am guessing there's no CEL now? Not sure but you can check the TPS to make sure its within the correct voltage when TB is closed and at WOT

are you running an aftermarket fpr.. . sounds like my car when the fuel pressure was too high

unplug map, unplug tps. plug in map that was plugged into tps. plug in tps where map was plugged in.
