Like the title says I am using a Y1 tranny with lsd and in 5th @ 70mph my tach is sittin a 4,250rpms. Is it really supposed to be that high?

It may have a 4.4 or just simply be stock. My DOHC ZC transmission with 4.25 FD, which is similar to the Y1, was turning close to 4000rpm @ 70mph in 5th.

this might be a dumb question but it really shouldnt effect mpg turning rpms like that should it?

Depends on how high you go.

<-57MPG(hwy) cruising at ~3700-4000rpm/70-75mph

Don't feel too bad. I had a geo tracker that was my DD for 2 years that i drove on the interstate doing 65 @ 5,200 rpms. Redline was 5,500. I wasn't worried about the gas mileage, it was the high reving for long periods of time that scared me. Long story short the engine finally gave way via a giant crack in the block

my 88 teg had 4:40's and revs were about the same, I pulled 40mpg on more than one tank and usually around 35 or higher. Now you know why I only use shell gas.
