It's just a waste of marketing.

the milan = 500 = taurus
just re-badged fords and stuff. waste of marketing efforts and 'trim' customizations.

i dont understand the point of it either, why not just offer different trim levels of the taurus at the ford dealer?

it's officially offical. Lincoln will stay, but merc is killed.

no more hottie doing the Milan commercials :(

its more about about marketing and rebranding than trim levels
ford stills offers different trim levels just the same as every other car maker out there
but their mercury line is more luxury, similar to how GMC always had more dressed up versions of chevys

yeah i see your point there
i guess my thought is, why not just bring those upscale models to the original lines..
say bring a deville to the chevy lineup for example. wouldnt that save some cash while still offering the same product to the consumer?

Isn't that what Lincoln's for though? So was Mercury supposed to be "semi-luxury"? Ford's version of Buick I guess?
