98 Civic DX CEL Code help?

New to the forum and it looks like a good place to get some help.
My 98 Civic DX's engine light has been on for quite some time. I've been driving it like this for about 2 yrs but just recently started having probs with it. The autopart store ran a check and it came up with PO135 which their printout said it was the A/ F sensor heater but also list probable causes for the CEL:
1- open or short circuit condition.
2- poor electrical connection.
3- faulty A/ F sensor 1.
I know the sensor is likely bad but the prob Im having is this that started just 2 months ago:
At random times, the car will buck and then just die out. I can restart it while rolling (manual trans.) but it takes a few or more tries to start. There were days it would run fine and not die out. Just before it stalls though it bucks and thats how I can tell it stalled on me. Would the A/ F sensor cause this or does it sound electrical issue.
Not sure but does A/ F stand for air/ fuel mixture?
What could be the problem.
Im trying to take the cheapest route for I am layed off and my son and I dont have extra money for these problems.
I sure appreciate the help.

O2 sensor, fuel pump most likely.

2yrs..? (not two weeks or two months.. T W O YEARS!!) C'mon.. mang..
Would you start wearing rubbers "two years after" you're drippin, got itchy bumps or a rash??

The light is there for a reason. A WARNING

Change your fuel filter, O2 sensor, clean injectors, air filter, check pump pressure, Clean your throttlebody and EGR ports and check vacuum lines.
Clear your codes by pulling the -side of battery.

(while you're at it just do a {full} tune up and replace your timing belt/adjust the valves too!)

Yes you read it right and moneys tight! It's not a typo! When I bought the car the light was on but it ran fine. I didn't see a need to fix it because nothing seemed broke. I have seen cars with the CEL stuck on them before and run fine for years but this was usually older vehicles. The light doesn't mean the sensor is bad if you look at the probable causes for the code. I could spend $100 for the sensor and still have the code if something is making the car short out and stall. When it does stall it sounds like there is a click sound coming from the passenger side somewhere. Sounds like inside the car but not sure.

I had this problem on my (old) car, I just swapped the motor out

Unless you have messed with the wiring or it looks physically damaged then the sensor probably wore out and needs to be replaced.

When you search 98 civic PO135 and it comes up with battery and nintendo topics you know your asking questions in the wrong forum. Another sign of the wrong forum is a persons response to your question and look at their location. I can see why you would swap your engine out now.:wacko:
