I see it all the time. Statue was pretty cool for a Jesus piece. Kinda reminded me of "The Awakening" statue in Washington D.C.

the thing that is really funny/ironic/sad about this is....
when there is some type of abomination (that is not a giant statue of Jesus) that gets destroyed by lightning or some other cause of nature (tornado, hurricane, land slide, hail, blizzard, flood, etc...)... all sorts of religious people come out of the woodwork claiming that "God disapproved, and struck it down"
but when its a giant statue of Jesus... it wasnt god striking it down... it was just some bad weather... and they are going to rebuild it
Bishop said the statue will be rebuilt.
"It will be back, but this time we are going to try for something fireproof,"
with that said.... being made of "plastic foam and fiberglass over a steel frame"... im surprised that it took 6 years for it to get torched

Anyone want some kool aid? I just got the shipment of shoes in yesterday too! Come on over kids.

one of the guys in the video that was a parishioner at the church said they saw it as a sign of dissaproval over something they were doing.

Possibly building stupid statues thats waaaay to f'ing big? I mean, I know they make lightening rods that run the electricity into a ground preventing this kind of crap? If your going to build something over a story tall, I think they should enforce certain safety precautions.

Estimated damage from the fire was set at $700,000 — $300,000 for the statue and $400,000 for the amphitheater, Fire Capt. Richard Mascarella said Tuesday.

What the shit?! 700k - 300k for a statue, but the churches need more money to help starving kids in third world countries. BUT! LETS BUILD A GIANT FREAKING STATUE THATS WORTH NEARLY A MILLION DOLLARS!!!1!
