but, most of the guys here that get heavily involved in our political debates are old enough to be running for offices in this country.

25 to be a congressman, 30 to be a senator. not much else required after that, just citizenship. (according to the constitution)

yes, i know that these can usually be expensive, but, that doesnt mean it couldnt be done. i'll be 24 this year, next year, i'll be old enough. and its starting to be a serious consideration to me.

been thinking about it, and will be doing a lot of research into it.
and even if i did try and fail miserably (most likely outcome), at least i tried.

B, you should seriously look into it, would def help for your presidential run after you turn 35. lol.

anywho, thought it would be an interesting one to discuss. what better way to serve your country than in the offices that we complain the most about. and if anybody here did run, and happen to win, you have a whole site of people willing to put in their 2 cents.

I would love to see someone here run for office, if it was an office I could vote for I most likely would. I can't say I disagree with much of anyones political views on here.

The best way to go about it is start local. You need a good local base to fund your war chest if you want to progress. Hell, see if you can get on as a staffer with a local campaign just to see how it works behind the scenes.

well, from what i can tell, the best way to start is a representative. its a 2 year term, and its purely local. than after 30, go for senate, then 35 for pres. if you choose to take it that far.

honestly, if somebody here ran for an office, i'd probably make a temporary move to their state to work with them on it. would be fun. lol.

A buddy of mine is a West Point graduate, last time he was home he made mention that he would consider a run for some kind of office when he is out. If he really does run I would damn sure help him in his campaign.

I looked into it for Illinois a few years ago, and the rules are so blatantly slanted to keep the existing people/parties in power. There's practically no way to get into a major party without knowing/paying someone who's already in it, and good luck running as an independent without a huge advertising budget/door to door campaign. When you really start looking at the rules, you see how much effort is put into keeping those already in power, in power. Even at the lowest levels.

True true and true. It's really fucking disgusting actually.

well, yeah, i figured that was going to be the issue.
honestly, i wouldnt want to run with one of the parties.
but, if enough people do it, and do it correctly, you never know what could happen. if i decide to do it, i wont let that be a deterrent.

The sheer amount of money to run a campaign is rediculous.

even for something local, like town council, it's still 10-20k fiasco of gettings signs up everywhere, campaigning, doing dinners, meetings, etc etc, not to mention the fact that you no longer have time to work.

Basically, if you're not a business owner, or independently wealthy, you can't afford to run for anything.

Does that mean our Democratic Republic has failed?

The posts on this site would be so much ammo for another candidates smear campaign that if they ever happened upon it (and they would) all legitimate hope of being taken seriously would be lost. I mean we post in good fun, but this country has lost its sense of humor.

:werd:

This is place is going to the shitter... people around the world say that the U.S. is the land of the free. Bullshit. We work hard as hell, get taxed through the ass, have more red tape and stupid laws than any country ever has, and still have no time to spend time with our families because we're always running around working and commuting.

/rant

true that bro, i beieve the best times was in the 70's n 80's. just seemed like everyone got along a lot better then.. or well at least what i remember... hate the way this country is going downhill. too many tittie babies, too many pussys that wanna shoot instead take a good ole ass whoopin, too many peeps that think someone owes them some kinda something, too many jackasses that wanna sue someone for looking at them wrong, and my favorite a dumbass burning herself w a hot cup of coffee and suing micky d's.. like the dumbass didnt think coffe was hot, micky d's shoulda sued her for bn a clumsey dumbass.... ok i think im done ranting now.. lol

What this country needs:

- an end to parties so people will vote the MAN not the party line.
- accountability and huge repercussions for those who fail in this
- end the nanny state FDR post-depression era bullshit that ruined us with the exception of social security for 65+. all other nonsense needs to go away.
- end taxes that we don't need, and increase taxes on imports/duties/tarrifs.

While there already are import taxes, they aren't enough. ALL of our business is gone. all of it. the only thing we have is corn. and shit, thats only here because its subsidized. And guess what happens when the water is gone (more on this below)

I'd by a GM is a similiar car from honda cost twice as much here, wouldn't you?.
if an impala was 20k and a camry was 40k, what would you buy for your family?

That's the way to save GM.

If your hdtv made here costs 2000, but your samsung cost 4k, what would you buy?

"bad week for business, fuck you pay me"
the mafia gets shit done.
america became pussies and we got and continue to get walked all over from everyone because we let it happen.

There was a 3% income tax imposed in 1861 and repealed in 1862 to pay for the civil war.

There was no income tax again until 1913 and it's been around ever since.

How did our country get by before 1913? we have massive taxes now and we can't even come close to breaking even.

Simply put, government got too big. It can't run itself effectively anymore. It is NOT too big to fail, and it will fail. if something doesn't start happening in 2012 or the next term, our kids and their kids are fucked. For real. total poverty. india/china will be the powers. we will be invaded and overrun by private miliatiats with funding.
the dollar will collapse.
there won't even be bread lines

start saving some seeds and get a cow and chickens now before its too late.

wait till gas is $20 a gallon.
it will happen soon. especially after we find out that 50% of our oil is currently spilling into the gulf unusable. who knows how big that pocket is or how far its connected. literally ALL the oil left in the world could be pouring in.

And what are they doing? pooling it and lighting it on fire. :bash:

after the $20 gas, comes the $20 water. of yeah, water is already running out in some areas. Cali, vegas, new york city, you're fucked. The SECOND theres some politics or some drought, your water is getting shut off for good. your money is worthless.

The end is coming. it might not even be from war or from a natural disaster. we've simply tapped out the planet, continue to have too many of the wrong kids (working families : 1.3, welfare familes: 5 stating facts here, not being a racist). poverty and crime breeds poverty and crime.

look at all the nonsense going on today. the cop punching a 17 year old is NATIONAL news! really? who gives a fuck about a cop doing his job.
we know more about celebrities than we do about peak oil, solar power, or anything else.

i can go on about this for hours, but i'm just going to get myself pissedoff for nothing.

I could never run. My closet is overflowing with skeletons. As I walk one is stuck to my shoe like old tee pee.

if i ever chose to run, i would run my own smear campaigns about myself.
i have no fear of letting people in on the mistakes that i have made, of the things that are very embarrassing to most people.
basically, i would bring everything out into the open so that there isnt much left for the other party to bring up against me.

that, i think, would be the funnest part. but, im also fairly odd when it comes to things of that nature.

i would run on a campaign of: what do you have to lose? obviously, voting in the same type of people, the older men, that have studied and trained their whole life to lie, cheat, and promise their way into an office to "represent the people" and then do things that benefit themselves more than the actual country.
to be a rep of the state, its only a two year term. thats it. i believe i could convince people to give me a shot at 2 years in the seat. its only 2 years, the worst that could happen is i could accomplish the little crap that the other guy would have accomplished.

and basically, i would be giving speeches much like what B said up there, this country is going in the wrong direction, is going down a collapsed road at a high rate of speed.
Whats not working is electing the same type of person every term, they are the same, just different names. they make false promises, run crooked campaigns, and claim to be the greatest person in the world.

i would come out and have a set list of goals. even if i had no clue how i was going to actually accomplish these goals, i would have the goal. I dont like to make false promises, so i would do everything in my power to figure out the best game plan, then bust my ass to get the goals checked off the list.

If a young average guy such as myself got elected for an office, not a guy brought up to be a politician and taught the ways, just joe blow from down the street, that guy would have to do an incredible job. he would have to prove to his district, his state, and to the whole country, that it doesnt have to be the way it is. his job as a rep would be 100 times harder than the other guys, because he has a big thing to prove, and would be scrutinized harder than anybody else.

and for the record, i would neer vote for someone who went to west point (or any XYZ school) simply because he WENT to west point (or XYZ school).

it's another stupid voting procedure.

who gets in?

friends of friends of friends kids.
