My little cousin graduated HS yesterday and is on her way to UNC for college. I'm debating what is an appropriate amount to give her as a graduation present from my wife & I? What would you guys give?

Id probably give 100 if I where doing cash. But the way I figure it money = drinkin money. So when friends or family graduate from HS and such I give domestic items as gifts. Mini fridge is always good when going to school. A nice robe slipper set or a decent pillow.

100 dollar gift card for restaurants

in cash i got anywhere from 20 to 100 dollar bills. just depends on what you want to give.

$50 cash.

no cards, no gift visa, no bs. just 1, crisp $50 bill.

that way they can use it on books, clothes, computer, tuition, beer, or weed. (just joking about the last 2)

$100 is a lot, $20 is too little. $50 is perfect for cousins, niece, nephew, etc. it's on the giver's relationship.

this scale is based on which one you are in relationship to the grad.
parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles=$100+
cousins, nieces/nephews=$50
friend, co-worker, hooker=$20

thats setting the bar really high. like giving out king size candy bars at halloween.

if you want to fork over $100 every time some cousin makes their way through school, then by all means. but if you family is like mine, there are a shitload of cousins out there.. if you can afford it, go ahead. but if you are normal like me, $50. ^_^

edit: count all of your family members and get a rough total of how many kids are in high school, college, marriage age. then add it all up. decide now how much you are willing to spend. the number will get really big, really fast.

b16 prints counterfeits, so he can afford to drop 100 on a cousin.

Tehre's only one more cousin that we'll have to spend for, and he's 6 haha.

Was thinking $100 bucks plus a couple novelty books about college (like college humor type stuff)

50 bones in the card, and 50 bones to them on the sly
dont know about you guys but all my graduation money got tallied up under the watchful eyes of my mom (record keeping for thank you cards) and went in my bank account for college
a little something in their pocket will help them out with their graduation parties with their friends

F' it. Become the awesome uncle and aunt, set her up with 100 bucks cash, and if she does have a over bearing parents like recked had, slip the 100 to her, and 50 as some college type thing. Pretty sure next family reunion. Your going to be the awesome uncle that she'll always remember.

People get money for graduating high school? I got a diploma.

We have graduation parties where people get a lot of money, though I didn't do one but my sister got like $3000 total. Everyone is proud of her too since she just got her Masters(in some sort of accounting I believe) this year.
