Hello all, Im sure that the questions I am about to ask have been answered countless times. I apologise for this but I am offshore just now for two weeks and the internet connection is painfully slow. I have tried searching for information but the page just keeps freezing before I get a chance to read anything.

So my question is, I am planning to buy a 1993 eg civic hatch back and would like to carry out a engine swap on it.

I am totally new to this but if possible I would prefer to fit either a K20A2 engine from an EP3 type r or the B18C5 from the DC2 integra.

What I would like to know is, are either of these straight forward enough i.e. bolt in or is there any custom fabrication work needed.

So for I think il need the engine, gearbox, loom, driveshafts and ecu from each of the donor cars to complete the conversion. is there anything else?

Or is there a simpler/better engine conversion possible that I dont know about?

apologies if the questions are stupid or ive got anything wrong.

thanks in advance for any help given.

Both are fairly straightforward swaps- there are countless numbers of engine mount and swap kits available for both platforms. To put it simply though- the EG chassis was designed to host the B series engine, so the B18C5 can swap in without using any aftermarket hardware if you choose the right parts. The K swap is slightly more difficult- but it's been done enough times that it's really not that bad these days. The main difference in putting a K series engine into your car is that the engine spins in the opposite direction from the B and D series engines- so it will sit on the other side of your engine bay and you'll have to relocate stuff to match.

You're right about the stuff that you'll need. The more you have from the donor car the better.

To help you choose a "better" engine swap, people on here are going to want to know your:

1. Budget
2. Goals (power, power curve, car usage)
3. Mechanical ability

Good luck.

ok thanks very much for the reply mate, I think il go for the b series engine as this is going to be my first attempt at a conversion and want to start off with a fairly straightforward swap.

im assuming that parts from other cars also need to be bought in order to complete the conversion e.g. mounts and stuff? or am I just speaking rubbish?

As for budget, I plan on making this a project over the next year or so and the car will be used on the road. taking everything into account I would say that my budget would be about £6000.

is the b series engine lighter than the k series engine? as I plan on making the car as light and nimble as possible once its built.

My main goals are to make a fairly quick road car with around 200bhp. dont want to make too much modification to the engine apart from the usual filter, manifold, exhaust and possibly cams/remap.

As far as mechanical ability goes, Ive spent the last few years working on cars in my spare time and can complete most jobs. this will be the first time working on a honda and the first time removing/fitting an engine. suppose theres got to be a first for everything though.

Parts from other cars- not so much. You can do it all with a mix of Integra and Civic pieces. It's all in our reference area somewhere- I don't know the parts mix off the top of my head.

The B and K engines are about the same in terms of weight. As far as power potential- the K will do a LOT better to the wheels before going inside the engine. There are people making over 260whp on a K20 before pulling the head off to replace pistons and rods- the B18C will typically only get to about 200-210whp max without a compression bump.

honda tuning magazine actually has a good write-up right now on doing a budget k swap
