What'd you guys think of the fight? I thought it was awesome. Brock got the shit beaten out of him and still managed to come back and choke Carwin out. Carwin seemed shocked the Lesnar held out for as long as he did.

Ehhh. Carwin punched himself out in the first because he thought he'd earn a stoppage. There was no gas left in the tank for the second.

I think had he not popped his cork so early than we would have seen a different result. Of course, if Josh Roshenthal gave the stoppage - we'd be saying that Carwin was a monster and talking about how Brock was de-throned.

In the end, I hope Carwin gets another shot soon. He's not a high money earner right now. His fight pay was scheduled to be $80,000 for this fight.

Carwin would have nailed him if they were standing up. Brock did the right thing in taking it to the ground or he would have gotten knocked TFO if he thought he could stand toe to toe.

props to both and yes he will have a rematch

No rematch, but they will meet again. Brock is facing Cain in September. Hopefully Carwin will fight Cro-Cop next, that would be cool...

People are saying Carwin has no gas tank after 116, I really have to laugh at this. He fought at a batshit pace, there isn't a heavyweight in the world who could keep that up for two rounds. Lesnar did what nobody else has ever done: weathered the storm against Shane. It will be interesting to see who finally pries the belt from Brock. I think the only real threat is Carwin. Excellent boxing and takedown defense are the keys to beating a wrestler and the only person big enough to square up on Brock who possesses those skills is Carwin.

i think they should have stopped it in the first. since when is lieing in the fetal position with your arms over your face taking elbow after elbow and punch after punch intelligently defending yourself in the UFC? ive seen 100 other UFC fights with that exact situation and the fight was stopped.

Besides Lesnar. Thats his thing, remarkable stamina and speed. not only for a big guy, but for any guy.

Umm, seriously? He obviously took the beating and was coherent enough to continue guarding himself. In most fights unless they feel they can no longer take the beating, they will let it go on. Within reason of course.

In a fight like Carwin vs. Lesnar, especially being a title fight, they pretty much HAVE to let it go on until there is a knockout, huge blood loss, etc. Its just like the Machida v. Shogun situation. There wasnt a completely overwhelming victory so it could not yet be called in the challenger's favor. Imagine the controversy that would arise if it had been stopped without a true knock out. Especially since you can clearly see he was still able to be in the fight. As Lesnar said post fight, Carwin was gassed, every punch was softer than the last and it could clearly be seen as a spectator. Im sure the judge saw the same thing and made the right call.

I thought it was a pretty good fight. After the win Lesnar sounded better than ever - not as arrogant and cocky.

Carwin looked like he had been passed through a sausage grinder and sounded way humbled after Lesnar handed him his a$$.

Carwin should have been smart enough to not gass out in the first round - he gassed a minute or so before the round ended - then Lesnar spun out.

And handed him his A$$ in round two.

Remnatch? Would be interesting. Lesnar walks all over Carwin on the ground - probably why he made the "Statement" and choked him out.

Carwin has better boxing skills for now. If they both work on weaknesses for a rematch. I say, Lesnar can improve his standup - punching and movement more than Carwin can improve his ground or stand up game. Lesnar has shown to be a quick study.

End result, Lesnar will hammer his a$$ gain. Lesnar has only had 6 MMA fights in his career and beaten the who's who of the MMA heavyweight ranks.

Let us not forget, Lesnar came out from a year off and stomped a mudhole in the #1 contenders a$$ after weathering a storm in round 1.

Impressive win.

The Chris Leben fight was a rocker too! Im thinking Leben and Wanderlei would be a great match up.

I wouldn't say Lesnar walks all over him on the ground, because the only time they really went to the ground was when Carwin was gassed. Anyways, it seemed like Carwin tried sticking to what he knew worked(1st round KO) and tested Brock's chin which no one has done. Brock finally experienced what it is to be on the other side of a beating and, as others have stated, weathered the storm. If anything it's a learning experience for both of them.

I think he knew it was his only hope. Lesnar is too smart to box it out, so he knew he had to get hit done quick or end up as he did. Carwin did a good job of neutralizing Lesnar's first "charge"/takedown attempt. That was when I knew it would be a good fight. Or at least not a one sided beatdown. Brock has really been working on other aspects of fighting not just his ground game. That is said to be why he switched to a more south paw stance to take him out of his comfort zone and force him to try new things. Its also another reason he didnt just pummel Carwin on the ground once he got him down. Evolve, or be conquered. Just as he said.

Agreed guys - and all things said by us armchair MMA fighters - it was a good fight by two of the best. It showed preparation, strategy and two awesome heavyweights.

Really the undercard bouts were pretty good too. I liked the Bonnar and Leben fights too.

Heck man, I'm a full blown MMA junkie!!!

Luv the WEC stuff too - Faber, Brown, Garcia, Aldo - AWESOME! That last fight Leonard Garcia had in Sacramento was awesome!!! It was Bonnar/Griffin all over.

Go back and watch again, it isn't as dramatic the second time. Lesnar keeps pushing him back. he really only "turtles" when Carwin his coming down on him from the standing position. There is one point where it was close to being stopped seconds after Lesnar went down. The ref warned him and he started working again. The ref made the right call

Having just watched it I am that much more impressed with Lesnar. Carwin may have lost because he was gassed but it was his call to go whole hog in the first round. So stating that if he wouldn't have gassed himself is not really something to consider. Carwin's strategy for this fight was to swing for the fence and he fell short.

that was an epic fight card. one of the best fights of the night was on spike. harris rocked branch. that was an INSANE slam.

carwin had a great game plan. it's called try to knock lesnar out as fast as possible. and it almost worked. lesnar is a fucking stud. i'm glad he didn't act like a super douche after the fight. i was really impressed.

This is key. It seems that White was pretty pissed about Lesnar slamming a primary sponser and talking trash in general. He is after all the champ and he needs to live up to that standard.

He definitely needed a little grooming and polish - looks like he's getting it - sounded much better on this post fight interview. Nobody wants to hear a trash talking foul mouth.

I doubt it was Dana who influenced this. What humbled him was almost dying of Mono...

:werd: He also acknowledged Carwin was no slouch either.
