I posted something similar a couple weeks ago and then i had an electrical issue, which is currently being sorted out by another mechanic...the plan was the sell it and save up for something else, but we made the decision to bring it somewhere else to hopefully save it (electrical issue between the batt and alternator.) Car has 146k motor has been maintained n all, if its worth fixing the issue, should I go back to my orig plan and make it ls turbo...If it can be fixed then chances are i'm going to keep the car for another year at most. It's going to be taken care of and driven as a daily driver and at school. I was told boosting at around 8 or 9 psi while maintaining it will be safer...any other ideas

PSI is irrelevant. Boost it to around 300-350 horse, no matter how much or how little boost, and get a solid tune. With the typical maintenance, itll be DD reliable easily.

What do u mean PSI is irrelevant? PSI is the point of boost. If u wanna go to 350HP and blow ur engine ya PSI IS irrelevant. If the engine isnt build to handle the boost to give it 350HP then the engine will last a few minutes.
If the engine is stock, even if well taken care of, a big boost will hurt the engine and maybe blow it because of the 150k wear and tear. anything more the 8-12PSI will be bad for ur block man.
IF the engine is build enough to handle say 25lb boost or maybe 40lb then ya shoot for whatever HP u want.
Also what engine do u have? u might be able to safely push more lb's

Im a nub on this site but hear me out... The boost forces more air into the engine, and if the car is tuned for it then the engine will also dump more fuel into the engine, making a bigger and faster reacting combustion. a stock 150k engine and to much boost is common sense for disaster waiting to happen.
i cant believe any 1 would give that advice! IF thats the case we should all get ebay turbo kits and max them out

How do i give bad rep? worst advice i have ever herd for a honda! Honda's are not v8's where u can remove the cigarette lighter and get an extra 30hp from it

Hit the road fucktard. You have nothin to contribute and obviously you dont wanna learn.

Great use of technical and mechanical knowledge to tell me i was dead wrong. Don't tell some 1 to try and push that much boost for a old stock engine. Wtf do u drive a train?

and FYI its vtec not vtech newb, perfect name man

what newb is trying to say is that PSI should not be associated with a certain hp or torque figure because different engines (even stock for stock with the same mileage) will react to the same amount of boost differently.

the OP's engine is stock and fairly low compression, so it'll handle a turbo setup fairly well provided that the engine has been taken care of. the first LOGICAL step before doing any of this is a compression test. thats the only true way to tell the overall health of it.

i would advise staying around 250whp on a stock engine with ~150k miles on it, and i say that just to be safe. it all depends on the tune (extremely crucial especially on a stock engine with mileage on it).

yes, you should just hit the dyno and tune until you hit 250whp, dont be scared to crank the boost up, as you will probably need 12-18psi to make 250whp on a bone stock LS.

i do also see andrei91's point in saying that too much should be a concern. anyone can see that some wild amount of boost would be a problem for a stock engine. the stock cast pistons just wont handle it. cylinder pressure would be too high, and shit is going to hit the fan.

this seems to me like it was just a simple misunderstanding, lets just forget about it and help the OP with the question at hand.

honestly i think you should ls vtec it first trust me puts out mad tourqe

What do u mean PSI is irrelevant?

PSI IS irrelevant unless you specify which specific turbo and which engine you're talking. 10 PSI on a small turbo is not the same as 10 PSI on a bigger turbo. This is why we recommended him to pick a horsepower goal first before picking an ideal PSI...

Careful, I got tore up for makin that bold claim.
