i am doing a 91 civic hatch with a b18 swap. and i am getting ready to spray the engine bay. i am going to repaint the body back to the factory teal color(or a black cherry) color. i wanted some opinions as far as what color to spray engine bay. i wanna either do the body color or just plain black?????? any sugggestions on either paint color? (exterior) and (engine bay)

i would paint it the same as the car

what he said.

i have a mismatched engine bay on my crx but only because my plans in color drastically changed between painting the engine bay and the car. for the most part, a mismatched bay looks horrible and is just a trend that will pass and ultimately lower the resale value of your car.

ok

ok i think i got it now. i wanna do entire car this color??? what do you think

Ive always been a fan of flat black engine bays. To me, it makes all the little details of the engine stand out more.

ok... well as soon as i can get my radiator support and weld i in i guess ill try it flat black first and if not to nice i have the paint well just spray it body color.

Imo, black bays can make or break a car. Depending on the depth of body and paint work and the amount of under hood goodies is what I look at. I do like black bays on older hot rods, mine will stay black(factory) for a while, but when I do all my body work and paint (probaby the peal orange off newer lambos) I will do my bay as well

yea its getting sprayed body color.... its about ready to be painted hopefully next week. gotta wait for this heat wave to subside a little bit....

nice. im glad you took the sensible approach instead of following stupid trends. you just got +rep for that.

also, its good to paint when its hot and dry out so i say paint away.

If ur painting outside as hot as its been make sure u use an appropriate reducer or your metallics/mica's will stand on end and have a complete different look from the rest of the car

yea it is a good idea to paint when hot outside but its been rainy and very humid at the garage and its not a real paintbooth so i am kinda screwed till the humidity drops a lil and the rain subsides. but hoping to get it done here soon. and thats for the rep points.

I realize I'm late on the conversation, but I too would have to say an engine bay should match the body. My poor car was victimized by some stupid teenager before i got it. Rattlecanned black right over the factory teal without ever removing a damn thing.

I haven't had the time to pull the engine, clean out the bay, sand blast it and fix it all up. That is going to be my next car. Its taken me damn near three fucking years to get this one finished...

Speaking of paint...

I tried spraying a pearl basecoat outside. I found, to my great displeasure, that you cannot sand a pearl without painting it again as you will damage the flake causing irreversible scuffing. You can, of course, paint it again, but make damn sure you have your gun and your air set up exactly the same way, or your pearl will take on a different grain from the rest.

I live in Maine, the thought of being able to paint at 92 degrees makes me giddy. I couldnt even use medium reducer last summer until the middle of July, and two weeks later it was back in the mid 60's...
