this is my new ride. 97 gsr b20vtec. im not sure how to identify the head, but would like to know which one it is. this morning i ordered skunk2 coilovers(sleeves) because i was impressed with the ride quality of my hatchback. also ordered a knock off mugen front lip:D as of yet it is not running, it needs a new distributor which should be here this week

Really though, it looks pretty good. Did you get a good deal on it?

The stamp on the head should be on the right under the PS bracket. IIRC.
 
lmfao yeah its super tall. i honestly dont remember my ls being this tall before it was dropped. i got the car for $3500 but the distributor was $190 and the very manditory coilovers were like $250, so getting closer to $4k.
 
Look above the header...should say PR3 or P72...looks like an ITR header. :ph34r:

so did you see it running before you bought it? like, did he take the dizzy off after you seen it run? i'd be leary about buying anything w/o seeing it run and drive unless you plan on pulling and replacing the engine.

The way it bolts up looks like a '98 Type R to me. Plus the valve cover looks like an OEM Type R cover....like it could be a ITR head.

But thats just a guess really, I have no real evidence.

yes it ran ok before the dizzy issue

yes stock internals, which from what i understand means i cant rev it past 7500ish due to a weak bottom end....? anyone have any insight into this?
 
If it's a gsr head it will have "p72" cast into it somewhere near the distributor.

Either way, the header that's on it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with what head it has. Especially when you make something like a b20vtec or lsvtec. All b series headers have the same flange on the head.

cool. i will take a closer look when i swap out the dizzy. hopefully it gets here tomorrow
 
the head stamp is on the left side above the exhaust ports.. it'll either say pr3-X X=1,2,3,or 4.. or p72-?

pr3 could be either a type r head or just a b16 head.. only way to tell is to look at the factory port job
p72 is a gsr head

the head is stamped pr3

new distributor is on car runs ok. check engine light is on and the throttle cable is sticking. i dont think its the right bracket, the cable is sitting weird angle. anyone know the proper bracket for this swap?
