never even considered them so i never looked it up before... but apparently we are getting ass raped even harder over here... they want $870 (673€) for one over here LMMFAO!!!
i just cant possibly imagine an intake box making enough power to make it worth anywhere near that much money
i have a comptech ice box on my car.... i got it about 8 years ago so i dont remember exactly what it cost but i think it was around $300-350 for the box and the short ram intake w/ filter... which i also thought was too much to spend on an intake... but i liked the design (it looks to be pretty similar to the mugen box... but with a 3 inch short ram, instead of reusing the stock arm)
having purchased and seen the ice box first hand i would not buy another one (not that you can get them any more any way... they stopped making them a few years ago)
the design is really pretty simple
you could probably make your own for under $100
get a generic short ram... or get some mandrel bent pipe and make your own
make the intake fit up to your stock intake box
get a K&N drop in OEM type filter
remove the resonator box from your stock intake
get some brake duct tube (its the same shit as aircraft ducting sold at a lot of DIY plane sites for a lot less money than performance shops sell it for
) and make a snorkel that drops into the front bumper area where a cold air would sit
if you want to get crazy you can remove the ribs from the intake box and smooth it all out in there.... but i dont know if that would make enough difference to justify the effort
but seriously...
generic short ram .................. $20-$30 (maybe less if you look around)
stock air box ......................... Free
K&N replacement filter ......... $40
Aircraft Ducting 3" ................. $8 - 12 per foot
some hose clamps/zip ties ....... $
pretty much totaling out somewhere in the $70 - 90 range depending on how crazy you want to get and how professional of a job you want to do
you can also get some heat blocking paint and paint the intake tube... or get some heat wrap and wrap it
or you can get it powder coated with a heat blocking ceramic type coating... that will cost a bit though...
but no matter what, there is virtually no way it can possibly run you the $500 that mugen box will cost you
from my observations Mugen products are never worth the price they charge for them... there is almost always something available that is just as good or better for less money somewhere
unless of course you are looking for the JDM bling factor... then you pretty much need to spend the cash on the JDM bling regardless of functional value
